« on: Wednesday 15 September 21 13:17 BST (UK)  »
Probate record
18th January 1872
Briefly …
The will of William  Ross, late of 1 Alpha Road, Deptford , Gentleman , died 21st December 1871 was proved by:
John McKinlay, 22, Albert Square, Clapham Road
William Ross, 1 Chatham Road, Grosvenor Street, Camberwell, Printer, the Nephew
And William Tell Nelthropp , 1 Alpha Road

Effects under £5000.

Heywood,

I think you're right about the 1861 census.
Where can I find the full probate record ? I don't have a subscription to  Ancestryor FindMyPast.
I live in the Netherlands so I can't visit any record office.

hi all,

some info I already had. Some not. Thank you all.

However, it's still not clear what the relationship between  William Ross and William Tell Nelthropp and Lydia Julia Noble is.  :'(

Hi all,

this is a compicated one, so I'll try to explane what I'm looking for.

Looking for any information about William Ross from Edinburgh Scotland.
According to census 1841 he was living in Southwark, John Street, West , nr. 11 with 14 other people.
He was 25 years old according to the census and he was a Lantern Maker.

I don't know where he was census 1851 and 1861.
Census 1871 has him living in Deptford (59 years old) with his nephew William T Nelthropp and niece Lydia J.
But....., William and Lydia (nee Noble) were married to each other since 1868.

So first question: if William Nelthropp was his nephew and Lydia was his niece how were these two both related to William Ross. I find this very confusing.

Second, third and fourth  question: where was William Ross in 1851 and 1861. When was he born and who were his parents. When and where did he die (I presum Lomdon area, but not sure).

Any help grately appreciated.

Oh btw, census 1841 shows that both William Nelthropp and Lydia Noble were living at the same address as William Ross (John Street, West, nr. 11, Southwark). So they knew each other probably all their lives.

they were married 23 Oct 1798 in Luddesdown.
I know they had 4 children:

Sarah 1799
Philis 1800

George died 1813

questions: who were the parents of Sarah ? Think she was born 1778-1780
did Sarah have any siblings ?

Thank you

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Elizabeth and Ann Oakes sisters ?
« on: Monday 14 September 20 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

pretty sure now that Philip Win(d)ley didn't marry Ann(e) Oakes.
If Ann Oakes died in 1707 it must be another Ann that married Philip in 1723-ish. First child Thomas was born in 1724.
When I had a subscription on Ancestry I noticed that in many family trees Philips wife was stated as being Ann Oakes. That's what you get when you just copy the information and don't do any research yourself.
Don't have a subscription any more (too expensive for me).
So far no one has been able to find the marriage of Philip and Ann ......

The search continues.

ColC  thank you. But Ingatestone is not near Roxwell is it ?
So not sure if these two ladies are the ones I'm looking for.

LizzieL
Anne Oakes was a beneficiary in a will when she was just 8 years old ???
Why is that ?  Does that happen very often ? That a child of that age is a beneficiary ?
