Hi Patkzn

Thanks for all the information and help.

Could I ask where is the link for this? William Bloomfield Bruce's estate file is on FamilySearch and lists his parents as William Rush Bruce and Dorcas Bruce (born Boucher). and do you know what is meant by "estate file"?

I have looked on Family search but cannot find it?

Many thanks

Hi

I don't have access to the 1851 census as no longer a member, so I cannot check and of course it could be a different William.  However, William Rush Bruce confirms his son William Bruce is in the Cape of Good Hope in his will.  thank you

Ok, I just had a very quick look and definitely we are the same family.  So William Bruce (William Rush Bruce's son) was the 2nd William to be born, as the first William died.  I only have him as William and not with his fathers middle name (rush) Do you have evidence that Rush was given as his middle name?

To stop this becoming confusing, I will list as I know it from the actual records:

William Rush Bruce 1787 married Elizabeth Finch 1783

Their son William Bruce 1820 married Dorcus Boucher 1830

Their son George Henry Bruce is who I think you are referring to?

William Bruce 1820 was a soldier, Kent England (1851) but married Dorcus June 1856....so I believe he would have travelled to Africa sometime just before this. His birth is not Africa it is 8th July 1820 Hintlesham Suffolk.

I really hope you can attach some of your earlier photos...would be amazing to see? and also do you have any info/idea's on the earlier part of the family...ie: before they came to Africa?

I hope this info helps you

Hi, it's really nice to meet you.

I have a hectic few days, but I will try to access my info soon and let you know.  Could I ask the name of your grandmother who was the child of William Rush Bruce?  Any info and dates will help me narrow it down as I believe from memory, there were quite a few children born in Africa but the line originates from Suffolk.  I am in the line of William Rush Bruce senior daughters name Hannah...a direct line down through to me.  Thanks

Hi Ernchat

I am unable to access my tree at the moment, but YES there is a link.  William Rush Bruce senior did have a son or grandson named after him called William Rush Bruce who went to South Africa and from memory Cape Colony.  As I did not renew my subscription to Ancestry, I now have restricted access.  I found lots of information on there about the family and I am very interested to hear that your grandmother was a grandchild of William Rush Bruce senior.  Do you have much info or photos on the earlier family? Would love to hear from you?

Thanks avm, I read it quickly and obviously misunderstood, yes she is one and the same.  Are you able to see any witnesses to the marriage on the record?  Thank you

Hi, firstly thank you Lisa for the information, this does confirm the link and that I have the right Mary Ann, are there any witnesses??

Hello avm, I am abit confused as in 1851 I have Mary Ann Vickers living at 1 Barton Place, Camden Town, St Pancras....but you have 39b City Rd?? Could I ask where you have found this info so that I can check it out?.  Yes I have her baptised in 1813 at St Luke's as this was the only baptism that I could find that fits but I have never been able to check the original register to see the parents names.....

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me.  I have found the marriage of Mary Ann or Marianne Bruce to Edward Vickers, could someone tell me the details, esp her fathers name and occupation and witnesses?  It is her fathers line that I am stuck on and need some help with and I want to confirm that I have the right link.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you  Jenny
