« on: Saturday 08 June 19 07:13 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking for the baptism of my 5xG-Grandmother Sarah EMERSON and her siblings. I have dates and a possible location and wondered whether some wonderful person could check for me.
The location is St Mary Mellis parish registers.
The Baptisms are:
Sarah Emerson d/o Henry & Amy, 21 Jan 1732/3
Mary Emerson d/o Henry & Amy, 14 Dec 1735
Henry Emerson s/o Henry & Amy, 25 Dec 1737
Mary Emerson d/o Henry & Amy, 19 Mar 1738/9

Thanks to anyone who take the time to read this,

Sue in Sydney Australia

Norfolk / Happisburgh/Bacton area 1961 - where is/was this cottage
« on: Monday 02 April 18 05:21 BST (UK)  »
I had a roving childhood and I'm trying to locate a cottage I lived in for a few months in the Happisburgh/Bacton area (photo attached). I've wandered around the area on Google street view and can't find it. Does anyone recognise it?
All help much appreciated,
Sue from Australia

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: Check entry - GIRLING, Ipswich St Clement, 1806
« on: Friday 27 February 15 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Chris,
I don't have any Girling ancestors, but I do have Girling relatives. My ggggg-aunt, Sara Gifford married a William Girling in Debenham, Suffolk in 1800. There's a big gap between Suffolk 1800 and Norfolk 1878 and Girling is "locally common" in East Anglia, so no, we probably aren't related.

Norfolk has become a good place for family history - most of the parish registers have digital facsimiles on the FamilySearch site and there's a fair bit of indexing been done on FreeREG - so work your way back and see if you slide south into Suffolk. (The Norfolk family history society has also databased their transcriptions and made them available online to members.)

Good luck,

Sue

As to your c1620 marriage, I can't see a Thomas Bloomfield, though there are 2 John Blomefeild marriages, 1 in 1624 and 1 in 1637.

Hi Cathysm,
Unfortunately the keeping of Parish Registers in England and Wales only began in 1538 with an act of Parliament associated with Henry VIII's break from Rome. Very few survive from this period, but the Act was reenacted in 1558 (Queen Elizabeth's accession) and reinforced with a more extensive act in 1598. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parish_register)

Both the Suffolk Record Office (http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/assets/suffolk.gov.uk/Libraries%20and%20Culture/Suffolk%20Record%20Office/2013-07-25%2041%20PARISH%20REGS%20ON%20FICHE-FILM%20B&W.pdf) and the Suffolk FHS (http://www.suffolkfhs.org.uk/docs/parish_listing_A-Z_May_2014.pdf) have details on what records are still extant and publicly available.
Wetheringsett's parish records start in 1556.

I believe you need to move to manorial records prior to the parish registers.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: St Giles in the Fields/Bloomsbury
« on: Monday 31 March 14 02:11 BST (UK)  »
Marriages for St Giles in the field are on Ancestry, but with a gap from 1837 (presumably July) to 1884.

To browse the marriages go to the main search page for "London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921". In the right hand column under "Browse this collection" select the Borough of "Camden" and the parish of "St Giles in the Fields" (Bloomsbury is not mentioned in the parish name). You can then get a roll down list of years which include the ones you want.

Suffolk / Re: Distribution of Pegg families in Suffolk between 1650-1800

I plot the entries from the Suffolk Burial Index for a name and it's variants. That gives you a very good distribution for the whole of Suffolk.

I'm not aware of any Suffolk parish register images on Familysearch apart from Lothingland Deanery (part of the Norfolk collection).
Just double-checked and I can't see any.
