Durham / Daniel Gibb
« on: Thursday 06 March 14 16:45 GMT (UK)  »
Daniel Gibb was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in approximately 1852.  He married Christian Robertson and they appear in the 1881 and 1891 census for Aberdeen In both the 1901 and 1911 census what appears to be this family is living at 141 John Williamson St., South Shields.  The head of the family is listed as Mr. Gibb.  Christian Gibb states that she has been married for 39 years and is the wife of the head.  But Mr. Gibb is not present in either census.  Oral family history agrees with the family's relocation. Daniel's occupations are listed in Scotland as a baker and ship steward.  Any suggestions as to where I could look for Daniel.

Does anyone know of any online resources about the Turriff Fair in the late 19th and early 20th century?  My greatgrandfather worked on Aberdeenshire farms and apparently won medals or awards or commendations for cattle at this event.
Thanks

Robert Bowles was b. 1894 in Aberdeen and married Alice Philip Steele b. 16 June 1895(Thank you Piglet01).  They married in 1913.  He was a fisherman/ trawler captain.  I am having difficulty finding them or their deaths.  Alice was alive in October of 1953 and in Aberdeen.  Is there anyone researching this family?

Aberdeenshire / Re: Bombing
« on: Saturday 11 February 12 22:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone, my mother, who is 82 and lived through WW2 in Aberdeen,  tells me that the Lads Club in Woodside was bombed one night when it was full of boys doing activities.  Mum remembers that most of them were killed and that school was closed the next day because of the bombing. (That was standard procedure when bombing occurred the night before) A large number of the boys had attended  both Woodside and Hilton School with her.  Another time, when she was at Hilton School, there was a bombing and the students had to go into the air raid shelter.  The teacher, Miss Bruce, had trained as a singer apparently, and to pass the time and to keep everyone calm had each student sing a song, one after the other.
