The Common Room / Letter Help Needed Toogood's
« on: Saturday 16 June 07 21:20 BST (UK)  »
I am intending on sending letters out to Toogood's who currently live in the area that I am investigating.....

.....But what do I put into the letter?

I want people to realise that it is a legitimate letter without them thinking that it is some sort of scam.

I want  to give them enough information for them to realise that they may or may not be part of my tree without sending the whole family tree.

I want to send them some interesting facts about the name and family inorder to get them to read  the rest of the letter.

Do people have any advice or even have a smaple letter that they have used?

This link looks promising, thank you!  Although it looks as though you guys know a little more than me about html, time to start learning again!!

With regard to my original post maybe I confused some terms?

I was meaning charts rather than trees (or are they the same?)

I use Legacy Family Tree (free version available) for my tree and there are various options for building web pages from the database, including pictures.
It's a lot easier than trying to build the web pages yourself.
Example -- http://www.paynefamilyonline.com/familytree/pedigree/1.htm
It also builds pages of Surnames etc, which is invaluable when your tree gets larger.

This is pretty good too  - can you download this software? (although I do like Keiths more :( sorry Tony)

Hi Daryl,

I know what you mean about just data - but as the others have said the basic facts are all data!! ;)

I have added lots of photos on my site - some by the text (of people and places) but most on separate pages.

Again have a look at the sites on here there is a list of Rootchatters with websites on the Website Forum section.

Meanwhile have a look at mine!!  ;D

Cheers

Keith

This is pretty much what I was looking for!!!

Rather than a page of text you have a visual tree!

How did ya do it?  I have tried coding a page with html, graphics and tables, but just got confused after a while!!

Thanks for all of your replies - what I mean by graphical is instead of a list of names, it actually looks like a tree (details in boxes, graphics to click for links instead of just the name etc), similar to that of Genes Reunited etc.

Technical Help / Internet Family Tree

Im not sure if this is in the right place but...

I have my own website, and understand some basic HTML, I am looking to put my family Tree on to my website, but would like something graphical rather than text like many of the converted gedcom files.

I have my tree on the Genes Reunited site, but would prefer one on my own site.  At this time I don't have a php or asp webhost but can upgrade if it is worth it.

Anyone have any experience or suggestions?

Thank you
