Thanks Scotmum, quite right.

More specifically, grateful for a lookup of any births surname Waring in PRONI for the parishes mentioned above, c. 1800-1850.

I was told there were births at PRONI corresponding but have not seen them. I have the marriage of Alexander from familysearch.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I posted some time back my knowledge of my ancestors, who apparently came from the Waringstown area (dates approximate):

Brothers:
1) James Waring (b. 1820) - emigrated single to Canada <1843

2) Henry Waring - stayed in Ireland, his children emigrated 1870-1880:
a. Margaret Jane (1840)
b. Mary Ann (1844),
c. *John (1848)
d. James (1849; likely emigrated 1880 with wife Bessie and son Henry)
e. Elizabeth (1856)
f. Alexander (?, stayed in Ireland).

*family lore states he asked Lord Waring for permission to leave and received some money.

We recently found evidence that Henry's children were born in Ballymena and that there was another brother who did raise his family in Waringstown:

3) William Waring (1 Mar, 1827)
a. James (1843)
b. Sarah Anne (1844)
c. Mary Anne (1847) - married John Noble, emigrated to Canada
d. David (1849) - emigrated to Canada
e. Elizabeth M (1852)
f. William (1854)

The parents of these brothers may have been Holt Waring (1806, presumably not the Holt Waring) and Mary Armstrong. Hope someone recognizes this family. Thanks!

Hi all,

I am looking for Henry Waring, the brother of my gggrandfather James. I have queried around Waringstown w/o success, but family history says Henry and his children lived near Ballymena, and PRONI has some promising records in Kirkinriola parish.

The family is:

1) James Waring (b. 1820) - emigrated single to Canada <1843
2) Henry Waring - stayed in Ireland, his children emigrated 1870-1880.
Margaret Jane (ca. 1840), Mary Ann (ca. 1844), *John (ca. 1848), James (c. 1849; emigrated 1880 with wife Bessie and son Henry), Elizabeth (ca. 1856), Alexander (?, stayed in Ireland).

*Family lore states asked Lord Waring permission to leave and received some money. According to the timeline, that would likely be Rev. Holt Waring, Dean of Dromore.

Fermanagh / Mungo Noble of Munville

Is anyone familiar with this family? We have a family story that states Captain Mungo Noble married a Clendenning (my ancestor) and that Lord Erin (Erne) gave a present of a piece of his estate...Munville. I see it it around Lisnaskea. According to our history he had two sons, William and Richard.

Griffith's valuation matches well (1862):

Occupier Surname    Occupier Forename    County    Parish
NOBLE    RICHARD    FERMANAGH         AGHALURCHER
MULLEN    JAMES    FERMANAGH          AGHALURCHER
NOBLE    WILLIAM    FERMANAGH         AGHALURCHER
NOBLE    ALICE    FERMANAGH         AGHALURCHER

Also from an article:

"...According to Burke's Landed Gentry of Ireland, none of the children of the second marriage married, but a Bill of Indictment in the Exchequer Court of Novermber 5th, 1820 shows Mungo fathered two illegitimate sons by Alice Clendenning and married her shortly before he died on 29 January 1817. He was usually styled Mungo of Munville, just north of Lisnaskea, which was also called Killhill, and held the lease of Tonystick at the time of his death. Under his father's will he had been left 1,000 pounds and titles to the lands of Altawark and Eskmulligan in Co Fermanagh...".

Our story also states that Nobles travelled with Clendennings (Robert) to Canada, which was around 1850.

Thanks!

Thanks very much Otto! I am leaving for Ireland Saturday and so will visit the Church. So far no luck in any of the searchable indexes. I am beginning to presume my ancestors were a not wealthy sept of the family as they emigrated en masse and didn't appear to hold any land, but hopefully I can still find something there.

Thanks, I read that post carefully. Although I didn't recognize anything, he seems to know that family of that time well so I will try to make contact.

Thanks for your kind offer...I leave for Ireland soon so if you have any tips or suggestions where to look first (in Waringstown or elsewhere) I'd be grateful. The family appears to be Anglican. We've kept the Waring family name so perhaps it will earn me goodwill in town!
