Hi Evie

just  to review where I am up to

I first knew about Alice Mary as the wife of Joseph Williams, a good name to be looking for in Wales,a mix of family sources (old memories) and BMD led me to Joseph Williams being married in 1925 in Liverpool. This first game me Alice`s Maiden name.

I am still waiting for a marriage certificate from the records office( Lancashire BMD)

I only had a vague indication that Alice had come from Liverpool possably St Helen's.
From this I had searched for possable girls of the `right` age in 1911. I could only find Alice who shared a house with Brigit as a lodger.
After reading about the history behind the Workhouse system I am thinking she may have been supported by the local parish perhaps because her parents had died. following this I have been looking into Free BMD looking for any James who had died between 1900 and 1910
to my suprise, there were  I could only find 3 plausible women canndidates who had died in the time range
Emma             James             24   West Derby
Margaret Jane James             20    West Derby
Elizabeth Jane  James            48   West Derby
of course this is just guessing ( I am making a few assumtions) and could be totally wrong but as a side note the name Margaret does reoccur in the family through the generations

So am waiting for certificate before moving forwards

Cheers

Hagen :D

Hi again Evie

I believe Alice married a

Joseph Williams , born about 1882.

abt May 1925 West Derby, Register Office or Registrar attended, Liverpool

and I do know she died at Holywell Cottage Hospital, Holywell  Flintshire on 10 Feb 1988, this was from a family member.
Alas no one seems to know very much about Alice`s early life at all so this is leading me to think there might be a workhouse connection
I am waiting for a wedding cert to be returned from the records office  but  as the postal strike is going on I am still waiting    :-\

If I can make a connection to parents I will be on the way to finding out where this side of the family line has come from.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply Nanny

that information helps me as it eliminates a lot of entries as being too young

on the other hand it is sad to see so many listed

thanks

Hi

1911 Census
21 TRAVERSE ST ST HELENS
JAMES, ALICE BOARDER   F 7  LANC MANCHESTER

I am trying to pick up a thread of a family line, I have found her as a child but no parents as yet, The ancestor is showing as a 7 year old "lodger" but with no family in the house
To try to find parent(s) I called up on Free BMD a list of all "James" who were listed as having died between 1900 and 1910.

There are a lot of people who have their age given as zero.

Am I correct in assuming this means the age at death is not listed or, does it mean a child of less than 1 year old?

Has anybody else seen this before?

Cheshire / Reading Parsh Baptism Entries
« on: Tuesday 15 September 09 12:56 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking through old records of baptisms and on a few entries the Reverend has written "privately" over the top of the entry.

Has any one else come across this and do you know what it means?

After reading the thread I thought I`d mention near 134 NAntwich road there were 2 "factories" there was/is a printing works at the end of Francise Street, Also there was an Engineering Shop "Denton" part way down Edward Street. Not sure if this helps any, or just adds confusion.

Hi
was reading your post and I thought you might find "The Lion Salt Works Trust" web page has some usefull background information. they was a change in how salt was produced which might have reduced the number of people needed to produce the same output

Hope this is some use
