Of course the SWP were not around in that period, but they are very good with labour history(social & political) I just thought they would be able to direct.

Oh and there is also the Peoples History Museam, they have a Labour History archive and study section.

I was also wondering if you know if he was a Union Member if so which one? Maybe that would be a way forward?!?

Have you tried the socialist party itself? They archive everything. I would start with the Socialist Workers Party newspaper http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/

Also try National Archives

Your welcome.

Hope those brick walls come down.

Couple of questions. I found the BMD index for Diana Tudge marriage, only the options are a Thomas Cross or John Hoselby.

However on the 1861 census I find Diana down as born 1832 and her husband is Thomas Husselbee.

Is this a transcript error on BMD or was both John and Thomas his name?

And what was a Japanner?

Hi Ann

I am guessing that's a type error and you meant G. Plumpton c 1770.

Sadly for me my own pc  as give up the fight and died I never got around to saving a lot of things including all my notes on the Plumpton tree. I am sure I had possible parents of Samuel Plumpton but nothing certain

Having said that the London Parish Register on Ancestry was not available back then so I will do a search later and get back to you if I find anything.

But yes Joseph did marry a Ann Cutler and they had 9 children all born in Birmingham.  The tree I am researching follows Thomas Plumpton born c 1863

Catherine Plumpton
1853 –

Mary Ann Plumpton
1859 –

Joseph Plumpton
1861 –

Thomas Plumpton
1863 –

Eliza Plumpton
1865 –

William Plumpton
1870 –

Emily Plumpton
1873 –

Elizabeth Plumpton
1874 –

Ann Plumpton
1876 –

If you want any further details just let me know. Looking on Ancestry I can see there are quite a few people researching this tree and I have just found Ann Cutlers Parents and grandparents.
