Derbyshire / Re: Buxton Fam connection needed
« on: Sunday 12 September 21 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Hullo, I am interested in your posts since my Buxton family come from Fenny Bentley and there are several Edmund Buxtons in my lot.
Since it is some time since you posted this I wondered how you got on with your quest? While you think about that I will be looking at whether I can link my lot to your lot.
My link so far is Samuel Buxton of Manchester, a builder, who seems to be the son of Edmund Buxton, born 1722 in Fenny Bentley.  I need to do more work here, but Samuel had an interesting life, and I wonder if he is related to your lot?

Frederick Voller Grange was born in Manchester about 1877, and is listed as a race horse trainer in 1904, when he lived at Oak House in Farndon, Cheshire.  He later moved to Alvsaton Grange in Nantwich.  His daughter was Binty Grange, named, as I understand, after one of his race horses which had done rather well!  I am related to his wife Gertie Thelwall, who was my grandmother's cousin.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Punch Bowl at Poyle, near Colnbrook
« on: Thursday 03 April 08 11:22 BST (UK)  »
HI,
I have discovered that my ancestors ran the Punch Bowl in about 1770-1800.  Apart from finding a picture of it on the internet and reading that is was in the grounds of the paper mill I don't know what else I can research.
I have found brewery records before in local record offices (Warwickshire) but don't know where to start with this one!
Any ideas?

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Rogers of Cranbrook

Hi,
I got my answer by going to the Kent Archives on my holidays!  I did not bother with the Kent Look-up exchange as I wanted to make a wider search.
The trail leads to Frittenden........

I have downloaded a map of parishes, but the road names are very small.
Can anyone tell me which parish Moor Street is in, please?

Thanks

Lincolnshire / John Haworth Burbidge
« on: Monday 26 June 06 17:57 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my Haworth family (none in Linconshire, but that's another story).

I have discovered that John Haworth J Burbidge was born in 1911 in the Glanford Brigg district, and died in North Lincolnshire in 1998.

He is obviously descended from Jane Haworth who married Francis William Burbidge in Wakefield in 1905.  Does anyone know anything about him?

I am keen to make connections between the very diverse branches of my Haworth family tree.

Cornwall Completed Lookup Requests / Trebyan orphanage
« on: Thursday 15 June 06 22:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have discovered that two of my great grandmother's sisters were living at Orphanage House, Lanhydrock in 1881.  Does anyone know where I can find more information about them - how they came to be there, what happened next?  Are there any records for this orphange - nothing on A2A, I've looked.

Their names were Alice and Minnie Underwood, and they were born in Bermondsey, South London.  The rest of their family were in London, and they were indeed orphans by then.  They were later living with relatives in Romford, Essex - Alice in 1891, Minnie in 1901.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

My grandparents met at this home - for shell shocked soldiers in WW1.

Anyone know where it was?  I know it was a big house with large gardens and mature trees from photos of my grandfather.  Apparently it was a girls boarding school before WW1.  It may have closed in 1918 - what happened to it then?

It housed 100 patients and staff, and matron was Miss Goldthorp according to The British Journal of Nursing which I found online at www.rcnarchive.rcn.org.uk

Have just thought could try directories!!

Just off to look online - byeeeeee
