Dumfriesshire / Searching for Samuel BELL
« on: Monday 27 December 10 03:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping you may be able to help me.

I am trying to find more information regarding the parents of Elizabeth BELL.

Elizabeth BELL was baptised 11 July 1806.
Parents are listed as Samuel BELL (Innkeeper in 1806 in Dumfries) & Jean/Jane CHARTERIS.

Elizabeths siblings are; John Charteris Bell (b1808), Alexander Scot Bell ((twin (b1820)), James Bell ((twin (b1820)). There is a large gap between John, elizabeth and the twins but it is atrue record of birth.

The mother, Jane CHARTERIS is also a bit of a mystery as i cant find anything on her either.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have the birth records for the children but nothing on the parents including their marriage which doesnt show up on Scotlands GRO either.

Thanks,
Sue

Dumfriesshire / Bethel Cottage & "Register of Corrected Entries"
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 03:45 BST (UK)  »
Evening All,

I am hoping that someone may know something about Bethel Cottage in Greenbrea, Dumfries, and its occupants between the years 1904-1906.
Also does anyone know exactly where Bethel Cottage was/is?

I am searching for anything on a Jane Paul who lived at Bethel Cottage when her daughter Catherine was born in 1904. She was still living there in 1906 when she married to Mr Charters.

There is a bit of a mystery to the whole thing including a "Register of Corrected Entries" attached to the daughters birth record.

Any stories or info would go a long way to putting the puzzel together.

Many thanks
Sue

My mother - PEGGY PAUL - was born in BETHEL COTTAGE on November 6th 1902.Her mother was JANE PAUL and her father was THOMAS MCALLISTER.Thomas who was born in CASTLE DOUGLAS was a Sgt in the K.O.S.B. and was killed in the second battle of GAZA.Thomas's parents who lived in LINDSEY PLACE.DUMFRIES, were JAMES MCALLISTER who was a Blacksmith and ELIZABETH MCGEORGE who owned and managed a wine and general grocery shop on the corner of BALMORAL ROAD and LOCKERBIE ROAD.I am having difficulty finding details of INGLESTON COTTAGES.IRONGRAY where my grandmother JANE PAUL was born in 1886 and would be grateful for help on this.Anything else that might be included on my family tree would be so welcome.I was not able to find the house where ELIZABETH MCGEORGE/MCALLISTER died.It was called DELVINSIDE,GREENBRAE.Please can you help ?Thank you so much.

.... I beleive I am researching the same family. My greatest interest at this time is Jane PAUL who lived in Bethel Cottage, Greenbrae in 1904-1906. She had a daughter in 1904 named Catherine, and there was a "Register of Corrected Entries" to her birth record (of which I have a copy) errasing any type of association with the father of the child.

Has anyone ever had or seen anything like these "Register of Corrected Entries"?
and where would you go to fine out why the entry was changed so dramatically?

I would love to have contact with Member "Barbarella" regarding her post.
Could someone tell me how to privately give my email address for her.

Sue
