Is this some sort of wind up, I would of expected he had sold it as its silver and it ended up being melted down so my expectations its survived are slime to say the least.

Would you clarify why you think you have the medal that was awarded to him, I do know what they look like and have seen alot of examples of them in the Royal Artillery museum when I visited it.

I've been researching my 4 x Great Uncle Thomas Sheldon and have found a ton of information about him having first got a copy of his discharge papers from the National Archives at Kew. He was born in 1794 in Beeston, Nottingham and enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery in 1811 at Boston, Lincolnshire being noted as 'underage' but he took part in the Battle of Waterloo being now a Gunner/Driver and despite having 4 horses shot from under him, survived and ended up being discharged in 1840 with an exemplary record and was an 'out' Chelsea Pensioner. He then moved back to Arnold, Nottingham and died aged 80 in 1875. I have alot more than that but I've just put a snippet of the information about him here.

I've searched on the Australian records for Immigration into their country for both names and there is no record from 1950 to 1960 of them arriving by ship or plane. I know they Australians are a stickler for their records being accurate, are you sure of the destination, ship and dates and I've searched those records for my own relatives and found them straight away. Both ship and air arrivals are all recorded and you can see the scanned arrival cards. There are also no records relating to them from the Immigration and Naturalization Records from 1950 to 1970, sorry.

On the NFHS CD both entries are from St Marys

Elizabeth Palmer married Henry Plackett on 22/06/1840
Mary Palmer married William Jessop on 11/07/1833

You can view the Parish entries on a fiche at the Nottingham Records Office for St Marys as I've viewed them myself when looking for my own family records.

Haven't been on for a great while but I'm back on this case, had an accident with my old computer and lost all the electronic records I'd collected.  Luckily I had printed out most of them so its a case of re-finding all the electronic stuff and re-entering into my family tree programs again.

As for this Allen family they are from the Nottingham city and I'm certain there are not any that are residing in the Bulwell area at all. Soon as I've researched further I will let you all know about this family and any possible living relatives I've managed to find.

The bible is actually a very old book and is a Book of Common Prayer, alot of the 's' are actually printed as a 'f'. This copy was printed by T. Wright and W. Gill, printers to the Univerfity: And fold by W. Jackfon, in Oxford. 1767 [Price: One Shilling and Eight-pence, unbound]

The births, marriages and deaths written on the front and rear pages of the bible are sush an easy starting point for the start of my research.

Had a similar problem with my 4 times great uncles wife, she disappeared after he died in Arnold, Notts and was buried at St Marys Church in 1875 and I really wanted to find where she was buried as he was at the Battle of Waterloo.  Hit the brick wall trying to find her on any census or on any burial record in Nottinghamshire between 1875 and 1881.  I knew one of the daughters had married someone from a village called Blackawton in Devon and moved back there with him after they were married.

Whilst we were on holiday in Hampshire I decided to take a trip to Devon to see I could find where the daughter lived and if there was a grave, the other half came along for the journey (I always know how to show a girl a good time).

With the help of my long suffering passenger in the graveyard we managed to find the graves of the daughter and her husband ....... and b*gger me next to the daughter was the lost mother who must of travelled to live with the daughter after her husband died in Arnold.  Which just goes to show that people are buried in the unlikely places sometimes and it sometimes takes a bit of luck to find where they are.

Its me again and I have to once again to confess that I've bought this item for £17 and .... what an item.  I wish my family bible had that much information it would of saved me a year of trying to find the correct records, the entries are staggering and very factual and when I've compared the parish records and GRO indexes with whats written its accurate.

My goal again is to unite this with the family it originally came from if possible and use it as a research exercise project to hone my skills to find living members of the family concerned.

Just thought I'd let you know I've bought the item and as a mini project for me I'm doing research on the cert to see if there are any surviving relatives around today.

So far its an interesting tree George Russell came from Glasgow, Scotland signed the Certificate  with an x, one of the witnesses was Elizabeth Russell who also signed with an x and may of been his sister. His father was a Gasser which was either 1) A person who worked in the "gas-room" where raw cotton was de-fumigated, or 2) A person who applied gas to finished cotton threads to smooth them.

Lucy Cresswell came from Belper, Derbyshire and her father was a Collier. They had a total of 6 children and lucy died in 1907 aged 55, George remarried in 1908 to Eliza Rawson.

Plenty more to look for and hopefully in the end unite the family with this cert if possible.
