Thanks very much for that Rosie. My Nelmes' aren't there, which I suppose I should be grateful for.

Thanks again, Helen x

I've thought that too. Unfortunately I don't know who Emma's parents were.

Thanks again for your interest

I've purchased the birth cert and the place of birth was Water St, Bristol. I then realised I already had that address from the baptism in Nov 1840.....

At least the birth cert confirms father Thomas as deceased (as the baptism record didn't)

I've trawled through the 1841 for Water St but the family aren't there.

Oh I'm so sorry! I've posted my reply on the wrong thread! I was reading this thread due to my interest in Water St.

Apologies again!

Update and still searching!

I've since discovered Thomas Nelmes married Emma Baylis in 1827. I believe Thomas died in 1840.  They had baby Mary in Oct 1840 (confirms mmn on the gro index.) So I've been searching for Mary and family on the 1841 census again but to no avail. Mary died in 1842.

Thomas died in Mar 1840 but Mary's baptism doesn't mention he's deceased? Can this happen? He died in the Poorhouse at Thornbury. I wonder if the family could be in the same place in 1841? Does anyone have any tips on how to find the workhouse on the census of 1841? I'd appreciate any advice etc.

Best Regards
Helen x
