Hi TallyO

Many thanks for your post and apologies for my delay in replying.  Since I posted this I have received a wealth of contacts and information from descendants both in the US and Australia.  A grandson of Francis Taggart (your grandmothers brother) has provided me with a lot of information on Patrick and Mary's children/grandchildren and a photo of their children.  I now believe that your grandmother was born on the 20th July 1891 in Croy, Cumbernauld.  I am happy to share this information with you.

If you could make two further posts to this topic I will be able to message you with my email and provide further info if you wish.  I have a lot of the Scottish history if you are also interested.

Kind regards

Lesley

Hi Karen

Afraid not!  Although I have since discovered that there was only 1 daughter called Jane and her DOB was 11 April 1873.

Their son was Thomas born 20 May 1866 in Kilsyth.  He married however a Helen Hart in 1889 in Glasgow Blythwood.  The children that I know of are:

Thomas b 26/4/1891 Glasgow Milton
David b 1894 Cadder, Lanarkshire
Mary Sawers Gorrian b 13/2/1895, Kirkintilloch
Martyn Gorrian b 1898 Kirkintilloch

Is this your family?  Mary Gorrian b 24/4/1858 Kilsyth (Thomas Gorrian and Mary Daileys daughter) is my husbands gr-gr grandmother.

Hope this helps and if it is the same family I am happy to share info

Lesley

HI lwsncrg

Just realised that this is your 1st post on rootschat so I wont be able to PM you until you have made 2 more (blank ones if its easier).

To fill you in briefly, when I first posted this we believed that Katherine's father (Patrick) was my husbands gr-gr grandmother's (Margaret O'Brien nee Taggart / McKeown) brother.  We have since found out that he was her half-brother.  As we had been unable to find her on the passenger list with the family we assumed that she had either died before 1904 or had remained in Scotland.

However, through further research and contacts I have made through this post I have discovered that she did in fact travel to the US and was aware of her marriage to both.

I believe she died 5th May 1982 in Mower????  The date of birth I have for her is 22nd Oct 1889 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Many thanks for the info that you have already posted and I would appreciate it if you could make another couple of posts so that I could PM you - I am unable to post my email address here.

Thanks again

Lesley

Since posting this I have found a lot more out about this family (and a few surprises!) and will PM you.

Thanks again for getting in touch.

Thankyou for getting in touch.  I have tried several times to send a personal message to you which you may have recieved but is coming through as an error on my side.  I have a lot of info and certs on the Scottish side which I am willing to share and equally I am keen to find out what happened to the Taggart family in the US.  My email is (*).  I would really appreciate you getting in touch.

Lesley

Thanks.  I hadnt really thought about that.

I have found who could be John living in Tyldesley:

John Conroy 30 b Ireland

John Conroy 30
Jane Conroy 25
Catherine Conroy 4
George Conroy 3
Margaret Conroy 1

No luck with any of the others though.  I guess I might have to get Catherines death in 1887.  Will that have her maiden name on it?

Thanks again

Lesley
