Hi Wivenhoe,

I do believe that to be my Henry Ashton.
Children of marriage to Ann Lee if I m correct would be Thomas Ashton born 1829 and Ellen Ashton born 1831.
His second marriage to Sarah was i1836 in St Michaels Liverpool. Children were Mary B.1837 in Liverpool, John born 1846 in Bowness Westmorland and Henry Stewart Born 1859 in Wavertree Liverpool.

ColC: The details you have posted are what I believe to be his family. Margaret and Ralph sister and brother and John Ashton and Elizabeth Lyon his parents. It is only proof of Henry's birth and relationship that is elusive.
Garstonite: Henry was a gardener and with his second wife he lived as far north as the Lake District and finally settled in Southport. The offspring from his first marriage settled in the Park Road area of Liverpool and I can document most of them quite easily. St Nicholas in Halewood was not built at the time I am looking at for Henry so most baptisms are likely to be Childwall, Huyton, Prescot or even St Wilfs in Farnworth.

Thanks to all for giving your time. I have tried unsuccessfully to locate this man's birth for a long time so may have to give it a rest now.

Thanks Colin but every indication places him in Halewood or Liverpool.

Lancashire / Henry Ashton

Can anyone please help with this name. Henry Ashton born around 1807 in Halewood I have tried unsuccessfully for some time on various websites to locate the birth of this man. I know he married twice. First to Ann (Lee) and after her death to Sarah Stewart. He was a gardener and appears in several census forms as born in Halewood. On his first marriage the witnesses are Ralph and Margaret Ashton. In the 1841 census there is a Ralph and Margaret Ashton living in Halewood Green, parents John and Elizabeth. I believe this could be his parentage but cannot find proof. There is a Henry Ashton born to a John and Betty Ashton born around the same time in Burtonwood but I believe he died age 29. The Henry I seek died in Southport in the 1880s.
Most grateful for any information or pointers in the right direction.

That is what I thought. Henry Meadows was a basket maker the same as George Davies so maybe if the parents died James Henry was taken in by George.

I thank it may just remain conjecture.

Thanks

Rosie 99

I don't have her anywhere after this date. But I do know from death record that her mother, Jane, died while living in Sweeting Street. This was the birthplace of all her children.

Would you or anyone know how I could maybe verify a marriage between George Davies and Mary Meadows or an adoption of James Henry (Meadows) Davies.

Thanks

Have Henry and Mary Meadows been traced after this 1832 birth? If they died then adoption of the child by relatives looks a plausible scenario.

I have tried and several others have tried to make this connection without success.
I think it may be just an unfathomable puzzle who James Henry Davies was.

Thanks
