Thanks Radcliff that's saved me a wasted trip to the records office.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Preston marriage St John's 1752
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 15:46 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please look up a marriage for me at St John's Preston.
I have the basic details of the marriage of John Hill and Jennet Kay on the 27th Dec 1752. I want to know if the occupation of John is mentioned or if anybody knows if that information was recorded at that time?
Many thanks

Wigtownshire / John Devoy
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find any information on a John Devoy who died in Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire in 1842.

Stoneykirk death register
Devoy John,  age 40, died 14 April 1842, burial 16 April 1842.

There are a couple of Devoy families in the area according to the census records but I do not know if he is related to them.

I am wondering if he may be the father of John James Devoy born in Scotland about 1826 who is living in Seacombe Cheshire in the 1851 census whose father was called John.

If he is I would guess he was probably born in Ireland. The heads of the other two Devoy families in the area were also born in Ireland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for the info.
I don't know how long Richard was at the Seven Stars, the only reference to Seven Stars is the 1794 census but he was a Hucster or beer seller in the 1767 census.
He had a land valuation done in 1804 which refers to a House, Garden, Ford & Orchard and several fields adding up to 10 acres. This sounds like it could be the farm you mention. The beer part of it may have been a sideline or vice-versa.
It would be fantastic to think that the house they lived in is still there.
