Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: Elizabeth Towell c1868 Metheringham ?

Quick update to this one.

The marriage certificate for Charles Cook and Alice Fowell shows Alice to be a Towell not Fowell which is what we expected and her father is listed as Henry Cook. There is a Henry cook with an Elizabeth living with them in Metheringham so this confirms that link. The only problem is what was Alice doing in Guisborough to marry Charles Cook. Well on the census when I check the family she was living with as a servant the head of the house was born in Metheringham. So it looks like she went with the family when they moved to Guisborough leaving her young daughter with her parents. Alice married in 1871 Elizabeth her daughter was born in 1868 so therefore was still a Towell not a Cook as confirmed on her marriage certificate to Charles Henry Addison. Elizabeths birth certificate shows no father. So that trail ends there.

Thanks for all the help

thanks, I had the same problem. I think all the children were born in Lincolnshire from 1883 to 1906 so maybe not this one. William was a farm labourer , I will keep this one in mind

thanks again for looking

Kevin

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / marriage of William Dixon and Ellen Todd

Hi,

I am trying to find the marriage reference for William Dixon c 1858 in Ludford to Ellen Todd c 1862 West Torrington. They are the parents of Harry Dixon my grandfather born 1885 in Ludborough (louth 7a 646 Q1). The 1911 census shows them as being married for 30 years so I have been looking around 1881. I have Williams parents as John Dixon c1832 from Brinkhill and Jane (Sarah) Kingswood c1837 from Wykeham. But as there are a lot of Dixons I would like to get the marriage certificate to prove the parents and find Ellens.

Many thanks Kevin

Hi,
Amelia Gee ( b 1870 in Staincross Barnsley Q2 vol 9c p120)  is my gt grandmother she married Charles W King from Wyberton not sure when but in 1891 I think she was a nurse in Lancashire. Her mother was Mary Ann Gee   b Staincross (Barnsley Q2 vol 22 P25 1850) I think. I think her grand parents were William Gee (1813) and Ann Gee (1812) from Darton.

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me to find her father and when she was married so I could get a certificate. Her mother travelled round for work to Wales and Derbys and may not have been married at all .

Thanks

Kevin

Thanks for all the great info. We had seen some of this but couldn't figure it out.

The marriage certificate I have for Elizabeth and Charles Henry Addison is Lincoln 1887 Q2 7a 1011. Date 12th April 1887. Residence at time of marriage Apley (parish of Stainfield) . Interesting the witnesses were John Henry Cook and Emma Addison.

We know Emma is Charles sister, I see there is a John Cook 13 on a census Pauline has sent with an Elizabeth 14 who both have Alice Cook as their mother. So this is maybe the tie in.

Also the Fowell connection (assumably a typo or mispronounciation at the time) also mentions a John H as the son of Alice.

So I am believe you are correct Pauline. Alice is the mother whose daughter Elizabeth was being looked after by her parents in Metheringham while she was working in Guisborough as a housekeeper and had her son John Henry with her. She then married Charles Cook in Guisborough.

Many thanks I will have a closer look at the documents

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Elizabeth Towell c1868 Metheringham ?

Hi,

I am trying to find my gt grandmothers parents. I have her marriage certificate to Charles Henry Addison in 1887 and it shows her father as Charles Cook but he was not one of the witnesses.
The census for Charles H and Elizabeth Towell show her place of birth as Metheringham and there is an Elizabeth Ann Towell born around that time in Metheringham but on Ancestry someone has a full history for her going to Canada and dying soon after emigrating, the only other 2 I can find were born at Ludford or Stamford and there was an Elizabeth (dont know surname) living with grandparents Cook in Metheringham about the right time.  So I am a bit stuck as to which is my relative and have been unable to move any further. I would be very grateful if anyone can shine a light on this.

Thanks Kevin
