Durham / Darlington-Womens Voluntary Work WW2
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 20:28 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have any idea how I could start searching for a voluntary service that my Grandmother, Edith Parker(b.1920) would have done during WW2 whilst living at Geneva Road, Darlington. This was the time that she met my Grandfather, Harold Coop (b.1918) and she told me the story of how they met, (Harold was serving with the Green Howards Territorial Regiment at the time) and he was obviously posted closby as he originally lived and grew up in West Yorkshire. They did marry in Darlington and lived here for some years before moving back to my Grandfathers home of West Yorkshire.

Could they have been married in Strichen? If so, I could have a look when I next go to the library. The library has specific opening times so I cannot promise this will be soon, but I will try. Send me the details by PM and I will get back to you with the information.
Kindest Regards

A really big Thankyou to you all....I can now look for a George Thompson marriage, and this also means I will be able to find him in the 1871 census now.
(which is something that has been puzzling me for ages!)
I am now a very happy woman!!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Complete

My Gt Gt Grandfather Young COOP was sentenced to 3 Months Imprisonment in 1884. His punishment was Bigamy, and he was sentenced in York. (He was born and lived in Dewsbury) How would I go about finding the prison he served his time in, and also does anyone have any tips on finding the other wife. He married a Mary Elizabeth Farrar in 1873, Dewsbury (this was my Gt Gt Grandmother) and I have tried searching for another marriage with the name Young Coop, but have no luck. I cannot find him in the 1871 England Census either.
Thanks in advance
Karan
