Angus (Forfarshire) / Boath family, Arbroath
« on: Sunday 27 December 20 15:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping that someone out there can help. I am researching my husband's family and have David Boath born 1875 (illegitimate) at 11 Applegate, Arbroath to Margaret Boath. I can't find either of them in 1881 or 1891 census but do have David in 1901 when he is married to Annie Cowe at Monikie. They married in 1897. His mother Margaret however is elusive. I have her death reg from SP - she died in 1933 age 94, father's name John Boath and mother's name only given as ? Carr.

I'd like to confirm Margaret Boath's parents and also find out if she had any siblings.

You should contact Orkney Family History Society. You can join online for £10 at www.orkneyfhs.co.uk. The website has transcriptions of birth, marriage and death registrations as well as census info and gravestone inscriptions. There's also a message board for members.

Although Stroma is classed as part of Caithness, the Orkney Family History Society has transcripts of Stroma census from 1841 - 1901 and also gravestone inscriptions for Stroma on their website (members section).

Orkney / Re: Saunders
« on: Sunday 12 February 12 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have just discovered a link in my tree to Saunders family of Kirkwall.  Ann Saunders, daughter of James Saunders and Margaret Bews married David Flett in 1794.  The marriage was in Kirkwall but it appears that their children were born in Firth.   It is an unusual name for Orkney so presume we must be connected somehow.  Glad to share what little info I have.

His wife Betsy is at Roadside, Stronsay in the 1851 census and is listed as a widow.  She was born in Sanday.
