Hello Carol,

I do not know what the words above and below the X are either.  I did wonder, after Kiltaglassan suggested midwife, whether the word under X was Gaelic for Midwife or Nurse but drew a blank on that.  Would you have any idea?

Thank you for your reply.

Sarah  :)

Hi Kiltaglassan and Aghadowey,

Thank you for your help.

I had noticed that the text was repeated on other lines but hadn't thought it might have been the midwife or an attending nurse  ::)

Once again, thanks

Sarah

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what the wording in the box in Column 8, Row 10 says?

I can read the bottom part "present at birth, 29 Henry St" but haven't a clue about the couple of lines above that.

Thank you,
Sarah

The Common Room / Clarification of phrase on Death Certificate
« on: Sunday 25 February 18 15:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have just got the death certificate of my Dad's Great Aunty - was going to upload it but file was too large   ::)

Death:  Mitral Stenosis

Occupation: Domestic Servant, Daughter of David Evans and then gives his occupation.

Signature, Description and Residence of informant: "William Lewis causing the body to be buried 4 Middle Taff Street Merthyr"

Neither of us have seen this phrase before - could someone please explain it ?  We don't know who William Lewis is and as her father was mentioned on the certificate I would have thought he would have been the informant.

Also, my dad is querying why it says ".....after post mortem without inquest" in the Cause of Death column? I'm assuming as they were able to diagnose Mitral Stenosis an inquest wasn't needed?

Any help / clarification most welcome

Thanks
Sarah  :)

The Common Room / Opinions - Helpful or Not
« on: Monday 17 October 16 13:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Would just like your opinions.

I have a relative who was married twice and had children both times.  I have never found a divorce certificate or marriage certificate for his 2nd marriage so it could have been bigamy as his first wife was not dead - would make her a bigamist and liar too as she remarried later on and I have the certificate! About 4 years ago I was contacted by a lady and we established that we share the same relative, this lady said she and her siblings thought there were skeletons in the family as the "elders" would not talk about things from the past.  I tactfully said I knew a lot but she might not like everything, long story short, she asked and didn't like it and I never heard from her again but that was her choice and I really don't mind.

My question, I am a member on another site (like most of us are) and had some hints and on looking at them this relative crops up again.  There was a link to a tree open to the public and there he with his first wife (that one I know was legal) and their children but no mention of the 2nd wife and children.

Would you see it as someone being helpful if contacted and told about the 2nd wife (possible illegal / bigamous marriage) and children or not want to know.  should I leave it alone ?  I know that this is not the same woman who contacted me before plus this individual lives in the USA whereas the other lady lived in the UK.

I would want to know but don't want to upset this person I have never had contact with.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your suggestions.

I could find a Bond Street but no Bruce Street not to say it didn't exist at one time.
