hi Paul

You'd probably be unsuccessful at the Mitchell.

The area your enquiring about now comes under East Renfrewshire Council, who have their own archives, local history section, see this link for more info http://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/archives

Hi all

Just picking up on some old info again...

This is all really useful info on corsemill/hurlet

Do you think the mitchell might hold old photos of this area?

Cheers

Paul

The Mitchell Library will have both the electoral register and the valuation rolls for this period. Unfortunately they are not available on line.

If you want to obtain the trial papers you can contact the National Archives of Scotland.

The following is a link to the Call Ref.
http://195.153.34.9/onlinecatalogue/details.aspx?reference=JC26%2f1926%2f41&st=1&tc=y&tl=n&tn=n&tp=n&k=Francis+Belton&ko=a&r=&ro=s&df=&dt=&di=y

I ordered papers from them before cost me about £15 if memory serves me correctly.

If the records exist they will be held by the Archives & Special collections dept at the Mitchell

School Admission Book - there maybe Data Protection Issues if records are less that 75years old. Best to contact the library directly

yorkerbrian did say what she died of ?? kevin

No you will need to look at the certificate on Scotland's people to see that - I only looked at the index & Cause of Death isn't shown on the index. I do not have enough credits to look at the actual certificate

Used my last 2 spare credits on Scotland's People - a Helen McMullan died aged 27 in 1915, the death was registered in the Possilpark district other surname Brogan.

Helen & Ellen are interchangeable.

The age looks about right, Possilpark is about 4-5 miles north of the Plantation District as the crow flies but without seeing the certificate we can't be sure if it's the same person - I don't have enough credits left to download it.

All being well when I see the doctor tomorrow I might get a chance to check the poor law records at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow if I get to make my first unaccompanied visit in 6 months -

What was Ellen's age when she married your Great Grandfather?

Who where her parents? Fathers name & Occupation

Who were the witnesses?

The address you gave, is that the marital home or is that the address given as Ellen's residence at the time of marriage does it differ to the one given by your Great Grandfather?

This information will be on the Scottish marriage certificate, and can be useful when cross checking for Birth/Deaths in Scotland which contain lots of clues that are often overlooked.

Do you know if they had any children together?
