Australia / Re: NSW- Paddington Girls School - where was it?
« on: Wednesday 20 March 24 09:24 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for replies.
Merlin - I am a little confused. I had a look through the two documents. I could not see specific reference to Paddington Girls School, but the fact that Paddington was a co-ed school. Did I miss something?
I would agree that it is probably the school I am after, but I just found it confusing as the newspaper article from 1915 referred to 'Paddington Girls School'.

Australia / NSW- Paddington Girls School - where was it?
« on: Tuesday 19 March 24 12:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. Just hoping someone may be able to help me with "Paddington Girls School" located at Paddington in Sydney, NSW.
I can't seem to find any information on its whereabouts, or if it still exists. I presume that it may have had a name change or amalgamated with another school.
I have a reference for great grandmother being a student there in 1915.
Thanks, Katharine.

Ireland / Land and military records for 1600s - help wanted!
« on: Friday 05 January 24 07:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all.
I have a protestant ancestor who was granted land confiscated from a catholic landholder in Co.Wexford. From what I have found it looks as though they were granted lands in leiu of payment as a soldier in the army (Cromwells?). Looking at the Down Survey project I can see the original landholder (1641) and my ancestor (1670).
What I am after is assistance from people who have already done this type of research themselves - they have a soldier granted land and have investigated military records and petitions relating to the Act of Settlement 1662(?).
I cannot see any information on Find my past regarding his military service. I am hoping to find something that links him back to his family presumably in England. Any ideas where I should look?

Hi all. Just an update for anyone who may have a similar photo and be interested. I found out that it was a Salvation Army jumper. This helped me identify the man in the photo - turns out to be a family friend not ancestor!

I am looking for a Patrick Pender and wife Mary who died before 1849 possibly during the famine.
