Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: Atcham Workhouse Records
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 18:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
There are still a great many Goachers living in Measham/Moira area. I'm hoping that my Mary is linked to these families. If you give me a few more details of the Mary Goacher you are looking for I can see what I can find out around the village.

Hi Carol

Unfortunately Mary did not include her father's name even on the marriage certificate and on the 1871 census it only has Derby as her birthplace.

By 1881, Mary had died.

This is why I am wondering if it would be recorded on the workhouse records. Hopefully someone who has used the resource could inform me that such data is usually recorded. If it is then it would be worth my while going to Shropshire Records

Regards

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Atcham Workhouse Records

I need to find out more information regarding an inmate who was there in 1864. My ancestor, Mary Goacher had a son George Goacher in the workhouse but she refused to put any info on the birth certificate apart from her name. Would the workhouse records have her father's name or even where she came from?
Goacher is a very unusual name in Shropshire but not over here in Leicestershire. I think there must be a link as Gorge ended up living over here.
I cannot get back any further than Mary, who later married Thomas Hughes and lived in Horsehay.
It a long way to go to find nothing.... any advice??

cheers

Staffordshire / Re: Photographs of staff of Alder or Alders paper mill Tamworth
« on: Monday 29 November 10 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
With regard to the staff photo, the large looking lady, second from the right is my partner's great grandmother; Mrs Annie Goacher (nee Grimshaw). As far as current members of the family can remember she was a foreman in the works and by all accounts a very hard task master.
We only found out that she worked in a paper mill this weekend! Seeing the photo was wonderful, many thanks

We would love a scanned copy of the image if that is possible for our own family records. If there is anything more you think I could help you with then please do not hesitate to contact me

Have you a date for the photo?

Many thanks again,
Norman

Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: COMPLETE Pipewellgate, Gateshead

Just joined RootsChat.com as I came across it looking for references to Pipewellgate where my grandmother, Anne Spencer was born.
You may be interested in purchasing Alan Godfrey Old Ordnance Survey Map of Newcastle and Gateshead 1894, Tyneside Sheet 18 (£2.50) as it has the 1894 electoral roll for Pipewellgate and surrounding streets including Askew Road. JF McGurk, beer retailer, is listed living at 127 Pipewellgate. Also on the map is a potted history of the area.
