The Common Room / Masons
« on: Saturday 01 October 16 16:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello
This is a general enquiry about the Masons.
I have tracked my gt grandfather down as being a member of the Stockport Masonic Lodge no 287 via the Library and Museum of Freemasonry from 1863 to 1919.

However they also advised that he was the First Principal of the Chaptyer in 1901 of the Chapter of the Stone of Friendship Ezel No 287

Does anybody have any idea what the Chapter of the Stone of Friendship Ezel No 287 is/was and what was the connection to the Masonic Lodge.

Many thanks

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Look up please - All Saints Church Epping

Hi
Thanks so much for the info re Boswell children.

I had originally
John James b 1814
William b 1817
Francis 1820
James 1822
Matilda 1827
Harriet 1828 - my gt x 3 grandmother
Henry 1833

I had no evidence of a Sarah Boswell not living with parents from 1841 census onwards
So maybe she died.

It was great to see that john Boswell was shoemaker in the early 1800's - his father according to his birth was a mariner so maybe I might find some occupation records.

I don't know this area very well so maybe you might have some idea which other church near to Epping I could try for the birth of Sarah How?
However, let me thank you again for the information you have already given me.

Kind regards

Sorry Trevor should have confirmed looking for children with the surname of Boswell, mother Sarah and father John.

Hi Trevor

What a mystery but thank you for your hard work.  As Sarah was married in All Saints Epping, I had assumed that she would have been baptised in the same church, based on the information from census.

All her children were born in Epping but I have not found their births so, I wondered if you had time if you could check their births from 1814 onwards??  :D please. If they are not baptised in All Saints I wonder if I could be going down the path of non conformists.

Thank you.

Hi Mark

My Sarah How married at All Saints Epping in 1813 to a John Boswell.

Marriage entry gave her name as How - spinster of Epping.  All census give her place of birth as Epping. So, unfortunately the death of Sarah Howe in 1867 is not mine. Thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated.

Hi

I am wondering if anybody would be able to look up a birth circa 1789 in the records of All Saints Church in Epping. I am looking for a birth/christening of a Sarah How(e) and would like to know the names of her parents and any other siblings born to them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quaker Family History / Quaker records - Durham
« on: Monday 18 November 13 19:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Just a quick request. Whilst checking the Quaker records for Durham I have noticed that beside some death/burial records there appears a note saying "not in unity".  Does anyone know what this means.
Many thanks.

The Common Room / Re: Help needed where to loo

My money is also on William - however Clara was not the daughter of a poor family. Father was a grocer, also granary owner and also owned at that time Dove Bank Mill.  I believe that there was probably a marriage proposal between the families and then a change of mind.

But not knowing which of the Jowett boys is annoying.

Hi

Yes, the Jowett family are the local mill owners and there would appear to be 3 sons who could be the likely father. There is a James, William and Charles, all of which seem to be around the right dob.  But which one?

Its just is so annoying that the newspapers give the name in full of the lady concerned but do not name of the father or "seducer".
