Thanks for your encouragement.
What I have with the BROWN family is take from 1881 at Bow;
William H (Hirst) BROWN 52 born Horbury Yorks
Catherine (wife) 50 born Ireland
Sarah (dau) 27 born Leeds
Annie (dau) 21 born Leeds
Joseph (son) 20 born Bethnal Green
Edmond (son) 15 born St.Lukes

Now there should be a 'Kate' BROWN there aged about 11  ....  I know she was around as she married my grandad in 1897 and as Edmond was born at St Lukes and the 1901 census states her age as 31 and birthplace as 'Goswell Road' I make the bold assumption that she was born in St.Lukes too.
Spent a fortune looking through the miles of Kate (and Catherine) births in London around the 1870 period.

 I know .. I know ......... looking for BROWN is like looking for the proverbial needle !However I am looking for the family BROWN in 1871.
The only clue I have is an 1891 reference saying that daughter Kate (Catherine?) was born at Goswell Road around 1870.
The rest of the family were;Wm.H.BROWN (head) Catherine (wife) Sarah, Annie,Joseph and Edmond.
