Family History Beginners Board / Re: Francis Bell born Scotland ca 1660-1665
« on: Thursday 16 February 17 21:32 GMT (UK)  »
I have just gone back to my early records and have the following which were taken from the original;
Francis Bell married 25 Feb 1693 Elizabeth Speed of Taunton Parish a minor and daughter of Edith Speed (widow otp) he was a Scotchman (sic) comment 'Pregnant when wed'.
Searching further I found (via IGI) a marriage of John Speed to Edith Tucker 1665 and baptism of daughter Elizabeth Speed born June 19 1668 both at North Petherton.
This confirms the existence of Edith but does not meet the the (minor) age requirements unless the first daughter Elizabeth died and she had a second and named her Elizabeth too which was common practice and for us ........more searching.

Hi .......... I must have missed some posts which you mention.
Would you please let me know about you comment;
" In the old posts it was suggested he may have been from Hawick, Supplebank or Cleughheads in Scotland."
as I cant recall any of them.

I shall always have a subscription with Tribal Pages as I like the sheer simplicity of it.
Lately I have become very involved with wikitree.com and just love it it's free and 'self regulating' and makes subscribers apply a discipline to whatever they do.
I am currently loading my tree into it and very often any change I may make (additions etc.) are very soon matched by others and a complete update is posted to you every Wednesday.
Very much worth a look.

Possibly already included in one of the programs but I'd love some way to be able to record witnesses to marriages etc, which could then also be searched within the main database.
Totally agree Jomot .... a man named Wildey from NZ saw the value in having a 'Marriage Witness Index' (MWI) a few years ago ..... I was a follower and a contributor along with a fellow Keith Flinders from NZ and we conjointly tried to invoke interest in a number of areas but there was little or no interest.
I tried on rootschat but it didn't get off the ground.
I see that someone is moving in this direction so you could try here;

I think an MWI on rootschat is long overdue.

Wonderful adventure

And as Joe, who is a current rootschatter, found you, but maybe the post can have a searchable subject line ...
and surely mentioning the real name of the ship and captain, so that Shirley temple and / or her family can someday while googling might come upon this topic ;)

Salute,
Janelle
Ah Janelle ......... but that's to be another adventure!!
