Midlothian / Census
« on: Monday 05 September 22 04:16 BST (UK)  »
I have the 1841 census for my family the Curruthers. The address is Ironside court old physic gardens and the civil parish is Edinburgh Trinity college The occupation of William the father is a comb maker. I have googled this address, and all I can find are articles on Botanical gardens and Trinity church. I'm curious as to the history of this address and did it offer accommodation (which I am assuming it did as the family were living there )and if there are other sites to go on to get a better look at that area around the 1800s onwards Thanks Hereford

Australia / finding where my convict relations worked
« on: Sunday 14 August 22 10:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I may have posted something similar in the past so my apologies. I just haven't been on roots chat for a long time.  Trying to find out about the work history of my G G grandfather  Michael Honan, a convict sentenced to 7yrs and who worked for Fitz Herbert Miller Mundy at one stage and Michael's wife Winnifred Heffernan, a bounty immigrant. The dates are 1835 for Michael till 1841. and 1841 for Winnifred. Unsure if she was still working for someone after the wedding in August 1841. Where would I go to look to find out the work and employment history of these two? Many thanks, Hereford

Thank you every I think that's my Hugh. I always felt that he probably died in England as he would have come out with his siblings to Aussie or NZ or even the States as that is where the rest of the family went. Does it say in the death notice how he died? Thanks, Hereford

No record of Hugh going anywhere and if he married or died in the mines. thankyou Hereford

Thankyou for this It says in the manifest of the ship Neptune that she was 20 yrs Would it be at all possible she was younger.? My Winnifred did have a daughter Anastasia. Anastasia was my GG Grandmother. Winnifred married Michael Honan Jnr in Melbourne in 1841. Winnifred had 3 daughters Anastasia Mary and Ellen I am assuming that Anast could be shortened from Anastasia.? She possibly named her daughters after family members? Thanks again Hereford

Hi, am also researching Winnifred Heffernan circa 1820 to 1821. Trying to find out about any of her Irish family eg Parents siblings what the family did or information on this family etc etc . The only information I have on Winnifred in Ireland is that she was an indentured immigrant on the ship Neptune  She was 20yrs old at the time and Roman Catholic. The ship arrived in Australia on 29th March 1841 and she married Michael Honan Jnr 29 August 1841 in Melbourne. Hoping that there is information on her in Ireland. Thankyou Hereford
