Have done, Bessy, Thomas and his brothers were also responsible for the building of the Masonic Hall in the town, so there's plenty of history there :)

Hi Bessy,

I did eventually get to read a copy at my local library, but there wasn't quite as much information as I'd hoped. My mum was born in Cullybackey, and apart from me, my family all still live in N. Ireland.

The family I'm researching is the Given family. Thomas Given, the Ulster Scots poet was my g g grandfather (he lived in Dunnygarron). I know that his father was James Given, but I cannot get any further back. There is a link to Ayrshire and the story of how Markstown got its name (via Givens and McKees), all of which fascinates me. If any of this is familiar to you I'd be glad to know :)

Thanks for getting in touch, Peter

Hi Alistair, I came across this post looking for information regarding my Given roots in Cullybackey. I've got back as far as James Given, b. 1807 to John (and, I think, Rebecca Mark), but the early history is still unclear.

Your comment about the family coming from Scotland matches some of the stories I have about Ayrshire roots. Do you have any more information, or sources for this piece of information?

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Upton-on-Severn Parish Registers - HOLLOWAY
« on: Friday 28 October 11 14:38 BST (UK)  »
I've tried IGI and all the ancestry.com records, but can't find the birth of Richard Holloway, b. 1791 or 1792 in Upton on Severn. The census records put him there from 1841 till his death in 1886 and there's an A2A record of him in 1809 placing him in U o S then.

Are the Upton on Severn parish registers available online or must they be viewed in the Worcs. history centre? If so, is anyone visiting before it closes for refurb? I won't be able to get time off for a visit in the near future.

Thanks for any advice/pointers/offers :)

Hi,

Does anyone know if the records for Upton-on-Severn Baptist Church are searchable online yet or, if not, available to search at the records office?

Thanks :)

Antrim Resources & Offers / Cullybackey: The Story of an Ulster Village
« on: Friday 17 October 08 09:08 BST (UK)  »
I've managed to purchase a copy of this book, published in 1913. It contains much relevant information on the history and families of the village. It is searchable via Google Books (http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=igtjFUP_hjEC&lr=), but you can only view snippets of the pages.

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / 1911 census for Carnmoney Lookup please
« on: Wednesday 15 October 08 15:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi Fiona,

I'm looking for a John Paisley b. 1869, m. Martha Brennan b. 1874 in Carnmoney, both were teachers at Mossley School. They would have had some children by 1911: Nell, Emmy, Joseph, John Carson.

Any information would be MUCH appreciated :)

Ayrshire / Drummochreen

Does anyone know of the McAlexander/Alexander family, Lairds of Drummochreen in Dailly Parish?

My family is descended via the Mark family of Cullybackey from this line.
