Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 census: Steers of Lowick

Hello Alibarber

Just read your post about Mary Ann Harris. We haven't done any work on our family trees for a fair while and have yet to consolidate all the information we collected when we visited the Records Office in Northampton. But one thing we did conclude was that Mary Ann's maiden name was actually Currell and not Linnell. This explains a lot of the dead ends we came up against when we were chasing Thomas Coles (son of Mary Ann and William Coles, and seemingly the one who led young John Harris astray). But your mention of Linnell turning up in one of the descendant's names means we'll have to double check all of this of course. Will post more (references etc) as soon as we get ourselves organised.

Hello Tigerlily

I've just found out that Dinah Bonham of Wingrave is in my tree. She married Thomas Arnold in 1808 and looks like she was the daughter of George Bonham (Bonnam) and Elizabeth Millburne.

Do you have any information on George and Elizabeth's births and their parents?

Hello Charlotte

Many thanks for your response. It is such an obvious move I should have thought of it. Unfortunately we had left before your post went up and, as it turned out, our two stays in Istanbul turned out to be so packed we barely had time to catch our breath.

Also, we were advised by someone else that all the British records had been repatriated to Britain many decades ago and our best bet would be to check with the British Archives. This we will do when we finally make it to the UK. Let's hope we find what we're looking for.

Lucky you living there. We thoroughly enjoyed Istanbul (and the rest of Turkey that we visited) and have marked it down for a return trip one day. Even better if we have a purpose like checking out old cemeteries.

Thank you again.

Other Countries / Turkey: British in Constantinople

Hello

My husband's family has some Scottish ancestors who moved to/were born/died in Constantinople (Istanbul) in the period 1850-1910. As we will be in Istanbul this week, I would like to try to find some records of their existence there, especially of two girls for whom we have birth datesw but nothing else.

Does anyone have any suggestions about where I should start?

Thanking you with fingers crossed.

I have transcribed some Workhouse records for Northampton and Wellingborough.

Seahall

Are these records easily available? I have some ancestors who were Wellingborough and possibly Kettering Workhouse inmates from around 1837 and would love to see what information they might have about the family. I'm also happy to do some transcribing if needed, provided that is possible from half a world away.

Australia / Convict Permission to Marry
« on: Wednesday 26 March 08 07:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Can anyone tell me where to get hold of the records of convicts seeking the Governor's permission to marry please?

I have a couple of convict ancestors (all NSW) whose marriage certificates state they were married 'with the Governor's consent' and I'm hoping the documents have information which will help fill in our pictures of them.

Thank you.
