OK, looks like you may possibly have to take a punt on that birth certificate, the GRO Index do not cover 1923 Births for some reason, so I cannot determine whether Illegetimate or a Jay married a Jay, or a Widow married a Jay maiden name Jay?

I agree, does seem to be the only one I could locate, if his birth was registered, which by law it should have been, a real puzzle, Florence would have been c 41, and Isabel F aged c 12, have you located Isabel F after the 1939?

OK check out the Frank  Jay marriage in 1909 Belper to Florence Beatrice Kniveton, a daughter Margaret b 1916, is in same household married 1938 a George Elliott, Frank is a Railway Clerk.

OK So the one with that birth date is the one with Frank & Florence B in Duffield, 1939, is that correct, what does the marriage cert tell you of the occupation of both Frank & John?
