The Common Room / Re: When is a widow/widower not a widow/widower
« on: Thursday 19 August 21 17:27 BST (UK)  »

Hi,

I think this could be Robert in 1871, this time he is unmarried ::) :)

1871  RG10/4712    f.68  p.12    Swinton,  Yorkshire
Village:  Kilnhurst
8 Simmins Yard

Robert TUE    Boarder Unm    49    Potter's Printer    Staffordshire  (NK)

In the household of Mary SHEPHERD.

As a boarder it would be easy to say to Mrs SHEPHERD that you are not married and she wouldn't know if it was true.

Daisy

Hi,

I think that "The Terrace" shows on this map,

https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/429075/431637/13/100431

It shows on a 1891 map.

I don't know why but using this link you have to zoom out to see anything.

Hi,

Thanks for the update :)

So many Register Offices for the area, so confusing!

Have you tried,

https://my.northtyneside.gov.uk/category/173/births-deaths-and-marriages

That's the one that says it holds following for the Longbenton (Walker Parish Church) sub-district?

Hi,

The Royal BC Museum have the Registration of Death, it includes the fact that he was cremated and where, and the funeral directors name,

http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy

https://www.rootschat.com/links/01qst/

https://www.dignitymemorial.com/funeral-homes/north-vancouver-bc/first-memorial-funeral-services/3801

I think you could contact them to see if they know what happened to his ashes.

Hi,

There is a death for a Samuel HORSLEY later that year,

Samuel HORSLEY    Dec Q 1871    Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire    6d  372
Age:    69

The age is 10 years out but it could be a transcription error when the info was sent to the GRO or the informant could have thought he was 69.

But it could be a different Samuel   :-\ :)

Just found this, yet another spelling,

Samuel HARSLAY
Age:  69
Death Date:  15 Dec 1871
Residence Place:  Union Workhouse,  Warwickshire
