Somerset / WEEKS, George Tapscott
« on: Wednesday 25 March 20 11:25 GMT (UK)  »
Whatever happened to George Tapscott Weeks, born in Shepton Mallet in Jan 1856, the son of George Charles Weeks and Mary Tapscott.
I have him in 1861 living with an Uncle in South Stonham, Hampshire and in 1871 with parents in Oakhill Dye Lane, Shepton Mallet. 1881 he is a carpenter, same as father, still in Oakhill, Shepton Mallet and he got married in 1882 to Keren Dredge, the daughter of Joseph Dredge, born c 1811.
Keran (!) dies in 1889, age just 35 but I an unable to find out where George Tapscott Weeks went after that.

any advice or help welcome, did he emigrate or just move to another part of England?

I see from the last entry it is some time since it was posted but I  am back on the trail of the ancestors relating to Elizabeth Mcrae, with the link through her sister Catherine who married ROBERT GEORGE REID MOWAT in 30 July 1917
His father was Donald LOUTTIT Mowat who married Elizabeth Reid on 10 Sep 1886

His father William Mowat married Margaret LOUTTIT on 13 Feb 1846 and she being the daughter of John LOUTTIT who was married to Margaret FORBES.
I am looking for more details of this marriage , when and where it took place and any further details of their other children if any one has any information
I am aware that the name LOUTTIT is usually found in this county and in Orkney Islands

Berwickshire / GIBSON, George Coldingham
« on: Monday 04 November 19 13:12 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find out if this George Gibson born 16th July 1868, the son of Anderson Gibson and Margaret Symington.
in 1871 he was at Burnhall in Coldingham
1881 at 39 Hutcheson Square in Govan in Glasgow with his sister Elizabeth and husband and family
1891 saw him back with his father, a widower, at Bell Strand Cottages in Berwick on Tweed, with his brother David and wife and family
1901 he has moved to Polworth in Berwickshire with another of his sisters, Alice or Alison and her husband Ebenezer Forsyth and their family. It also says he is married, but no mention of his wife and I am unable to find a marriage for George in either Northumberland nor Berwickshire!
Where is he and to whom did he marry or is the information on 1901 census incorrect?

Can anyone help trace David Taylor Black, born in Edinburgh on 14th Nov 1870 to John Black and Mary Taylor?
I have him on both the 1871 and 1881 census but nothing after that and unable to locate a death or marriage. Did he emigrate to USA ?
Also his sister, Elizabeth Thompson Black born 27th Feb 1872 in Edinburgh, on the 1881 census but then disappears

Any help would be appreciated

Midlothian / Roseburgh family
« on: Thursday 25 October 18 21:22 BST (UK)  »
Although not related, I do have a special interest in this family, who married into the BUCHAN family, some of whom then married into the BLACKs. sadly not the same as my family as I have yet to find any links.

William Roseburgh born at STOW in1865, married Robina Bell Dorrance Butler in Galashiels in 1886, he was a hairdresser to trade and had the following children

John   1887   in Dumfries ;        Robert Blair Butler in 1888 in Galashiels  ;  James 1891 in Selkirk

Mary Butler in 1891 who married a Torrance Buchan ;  William in 1894  in Galashiels ; George 1895

Maggie 1897 and Robina 1899 all in Galashiels, she died in 1902 ; then Alexander in 1902 and another Robina in 1904 both in Lasswade.

Mary Butler and Torrance Buchan then had children including a son called Torrance in 1915, who married Elizabeth McPake, who then also named a son Torrance in 1940 in Peebles. I think.

Any further information would be much appreciated concerning the Buchan side mainly
