Kirkcudbrightshire / James McMiken, Gatehouse.
« on: Tuesday 02 March 10 20:30 GMT (UK)  »
In the 1839 Girthon Roll of Electors, James McMiken is referred to as " proprietor, house and garden, Gatehouse" and I wonder if anyone can please enlighten me on the location of this house?   James has also been described variously as a wood merchant, joiner and grocer in Gatehouse and was married to Mary Bell.
Any info. on his time in the town prior to his moving into the family farm of High Creoch would be very much appreciated.

Kirkcudbrightshire / Young famly, Castle Douglas.

Hi,
Can anyone please advise on where the Young family resided in Castle Douglas during the early 1800s?    Father and son, both named William, were wine merchants in C.D. where son, William, was also a magistrate and provost.   Any info. on where their shop may have been will also be of interest.    Also:- was there a house named "Glenshinnoch" in the town or area?..... from where did the family originate?..... was there a link to Sir William Douglas?    All probably a tall order but many thanks anyway.

Hello from a new member........... looking for additional info. on Samuel & Hugh McClymont,  both described as merchants in Girvan in the late 1700s/early 1800s.    I have info. back to Sam. m. to Agnes Davidson.   Sam died c. 1819/20 & I would dearly like to locate Hugh together with their parents.    Of particular interest would be to learn if their mother, or any other female member/ancestor, was a Douglas, probably from Wigtownshire.
Any info. on this family would be very welcome.
Regards.........Bob.
