World War Two / Photo query
« on: Monday 10 August 20 19:02 BST (UK)  »
The wife has unearthed a family photo from 1944. It states :-

"Authority.
9th Army 461/841/G.S.I(b)
Dated 17th Feb 44"

Can I take it that the military experts will know what the above relates to?

Thanks.

Technical Help / New hard drives ??
« on: Friday 28 February 20 11:30 GMT (UK)  »
I saw this advertised "NEW 320GB SATA 3.5 Hard Disk Drive" a couple of weeks ago, and decided to purchase one.
When I installed it, I was having problems, so I decided to "scan" it with data recovery software. Guess what, I am not even 25% through the drive, and so far, have found 16,757 individual files, photographs, gifs, data files, pdf's etc, which I can recover. This begs the question, where does this drive originate from, and why are the sellers claiming it as being "NEW."
Where do you put your old hard drives?
There are hundreds, if not thousands of P.C's put into to our local recycle centre yearly.
"The information is out there, you just have to let it in."

Take care with your hardware.

Scotland / The Harry Bennett post and illigitimate children.
« on: Friday 05 April 19 11:28 BST (UK)  »
We see from the Harry Bennett thread, than Reuben Kitson Mitchell changed his name after his mother married Henry Bennett. His actual father was declared to be Reuben Kitson junior, on the 21st January 1916 at the Sheriff Court in Glasgow.
Now we know that he (Reuben) was illigitimate, but his father was known and now legally declared by name in court, and recorded as said in the Register of Corrected Entries.
My question now relates to inheritance.
Since the father was named and declared in court, did/would the child have any inheritance rights?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Curiosity is getting the better of me.
« on: Monday 07 January 19 09:41 GMT (UK)  »
As it stands at present, I was told some years ago that I have an uncle who was born in Aberdeen, post 1912, who moved to New Zealand, South Island. As he is/was my father’s brother, I know the surname, but not the forename. The dates that my grandparents had children started in 1912 and went through to 1934. If I find the forename from the Aberdeen registrars, what are the chances of getting more information from the New Zealand records? Will it be worth dealing with this or will I hit a brick wall?

Thanks
