Hi Bev I tried to answer your message but something were wrong and it showed error. I don't know if you got it or not so I'll copy it here!
Hi Bev, thanks for getting in touch! Yes we're talking about the same family!
George Jones and Catherine Gallagher were my g grandparents, my grandmother was their daughter Florence (Flossie/Florrie). She married Henry Victor Turner. They had 2 sons Sidney and my Dad - Frank (Francis)
So which of the Jones children are you from?
As you've probably guessed my name is Barbara and I'm in Australia but was brought up in Coventry.
I'd love to swap notes and hear about your side of this large family
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Barb

Hi John, thanks for the link to the Brickworks, I found it very interesting.
I'm always keen to find out about the "lives and times" of our family, it's what makes our hobby worthwhile, not just the BMD with no idea what life was like way back when.
Just an aside I noticed a lot of the neighbouring families to my Batchelors were in the comb-making trade.  They would have used the bones from the beasts whose skins were tanned to make the combs. Nothing was wasted, there were probably trades like soap making  around the area too.

Thanks also for the death record, he isn't one of mine that I know but I'll keep it in case I find out if there is a connection somewhere.
Anyway, enough waffle from me
Thanks for your help!
Barbara

Hi John, I've just found your post, thank you so much for your info! From what you say I think my Batchelor family lived in the same road all the time, just the name changed - from Tan House Lane to Spring Lane.

Whatever name it went by I would think it would have been a horribly smelly place to live when the wind was in the wrong direction!
thanks again

Hi Gill, Thank you again!
Knowing Henry's father narrows the search.
You wouldn't credit in a small place like Bishops Tachbrook there were 3 Henry Doughtys around the same age who married a woman called Ann or Annie!  ???
I think I have the right one now though.
Take care
Barbara

Hi Gill,
Thank you for that, so she must have married Henry Doughty.
On my tree I have Ann marrying Fred D but in Bishops Tachbrook on 24 April 1855. So I have the marriages well & truly mixed! An Aunt did some research around 20 years ago & I think this info must have been part of that. I've been checking through it all slowly, she did pretty well as this is the only "clanger" I've found as yet!
Ann's Grandad (James Dad) was a William Batchelor so that may have caused some of the confusion.
Thanks again

« on: Monday 06 August 07 15:15 BST (UK)  »
I would be so grateful if anyone could check out the bride's fathers on a couple of
marriages for me. I have two possibles here are the details:

Ann Batchelor & Frederick Doughty 12 May 1853  Kenilworth

Ann Batchelor & Henry Doughty 24 April 1855 Bishops Tachbrook

Please could you confirm father's name, the one I'm related to is James Batchelor.

I was looking for Ann on the censuses but  I'm not sure which Doughty she married!
Hope someone can solve my problem!

Thank you
Barbara

Hi Wendy,
Thank you so much for doing that for me, I never thought of Fuller!
The 1861 looks like it may be the family, I'm not sure about the 1871 but
it's certainly better than I managed!!
I really appreciate your help

Hi, here's a bit of a challenge that I hope someone will take up.
I've been trying to find my gt Grandma on the 1861 & 1871 census.I subscribe to Ancestry but after searching every spelling I have drawn a blank with Harriet.
She was born Harriet Fellows around 1858 according to her marriage certificate her late father was James Fellows, a plane maker born around 1820 in Birmingham.
I can't get anything for her before her marriage in 1878 to Frederick Shipp in Birmingham
On the 1881 census she says she was born in Birmingham, but on 1891 it's Glamorganshire Wales.
My old auntie (her granddaughter) told me that she was tiny & Welsh, she also said she was a bit of a tyrant but that neither here nor there!
I think I've found her parents James & Mary with other children on the 1871 in Bristol.
RG10/2519/95 p7
No sign of Harriet. :'(
I would be so grateful for some help with this.
Thank you in advance
Barbara

Alli, you're a star!
Thank you so much for this, you've just knocked another stubborn brick out of the wall!
I'm almost certain this is them, Elizabeth called her first daughter Jane. I wonder if Dad had died.
I've trawled the '41 census films on & off for years to no avail now I know why, I was looking in the wrong place!
Thanks again
Barb
