Could some kind person please restore this b x w photo of pre-War Coventry in a parlous state I'm afraid to something clearer.  It means a lot as it has my mother (seated) perhaps two months prior to my birth and both sets of grandparents and great aunt and uncle.  Thank you.   I may not have uploaded this correctly as I merely used copy and paste.  Hope this works.

If they were Baptists there would be no child christening.  Maybe the records of Salem or Union Place Baptist Churches in nearby Longford would have records of baptism as an adult.

There were Lissamans in Stoke. Coventry at least until the 1970s.  They were Non-Conformists.

if your Granddad appears in the 1911 or 1901 Census you should be able to find him resident at the Asylum.   I found the sibling of an ancestor there at Hatton.

Warwickshire / Re: John Whithead, Mayor of Coventry 1598

:)Does anyone think they might be descended from John Whit(e)head, Mercer and Mayor of Coventry in 1598?  He died during his tenure of office.  PCC Will.  Wall Brass in Holy Trinity, Coventry.  My Whitehead ancestors are only in Coventry 19-20 century, previous to this they were farmers in Baxterley, N. Warcks, and previous to that c.1600 in Middleton, Nr Tamworth.  Simon Whitehead, [bur 25 May 1666] = Grace? 1640? son Richard [bur 16 Apr 1708, Baxterley] =Elizabeth Underhill 18 May 1664, Middleton,Warcks. Family remained in Baxterley until c. 1830s when Joseph became Farm Manager at Canley, Coventry.
I have been on this search for 40 years and would like to know of anyone else who may be connected please.
Another tantalising event is the burial on Christmas Day 1732at Baxterley of father and son both John Whitehead.  An epidemic or some kind or a family row?  No comment in the parish register or BTs.

Hello there
I am unfortunately not connected to the Berkeswell and South Warwickshire (Fillongley etc) line though my ancestor Joseph Whitehead jnr = Harrriet Gilks (both farming families) by Licence at Berkeswell Church in 1850.   If any of mine link to John (Mayor of Coventry) it would be through a younger son who did not inherit the family farm in North Warwickshire but it may be quite impossible to prove.

Could it be Bexhill?   There is the 30's De La Ware Pavillion there which then had a restaurant and Palm Court entertainment etc.

Hello Karenlee,

Thank you very much.

Ages for Peter and Maria seem to be about 10 years too low.

I think you will find the parish is COMBROOK not Cornbrook, Warwicks.  Typing error or not clearly
transcribed maybe.  Hope this helps.

Sorry Alex, I missed your reply and perhaps too late now but Herbert FH Centre, near Cathedral in Coventry should have them or know where they are.  Otherwise try Warwick RO.

At this date you may need Bishop's Transcripts which are held at Lichfield Record Office.
Some 19th century registers for St Michael, Coventry were destroyed in the Blitz but there could be transcripts and also the earlier 17th century ones would have BTs.   Herbert FH Centre Coventry would have more info, or try Lichfield.
