thank you Farfarian, was just about to go up the apples and pears ;D so I checked the original it doesn't really tell me anything just , Simon Fraser    " then what looks like a number badly written 12 Mary Fraser Gortlick 19 Dec 1803, the only reason I came across Clune was on closer inspection the Donald Fraser above Simon and Mary's, was followed by Clune and that is where the gap is for Simon so I assume that's " is ditto, hope you follow , Nikitah

Wow, Forfarian, that's some fantastic information, thank you . Marg59, Simon Fraser married Mary Fraser at Dores 19/11/1803, on the marriage certificate it says Gorthleck, it can be spelt in different ways. these are the children I have for them,
John 1805,      Margaret 1810,     Hugh 1812,       Alexander 1815,    Thomas 1817,     Janet 1819,     Catharine 1822       and Mary 1824, on Mary's it says Tomvoit, there seems to be a few big gaps but I haven't found any others to this couple.      I think Simon may have died before 1841 because I can't find him on any census nor can I find a death, in 1851 at Boleskine, Mary I believe is living with her daughter Mary Rose ms Fraser although it says" Sister" to the head in this case her son in law ::) I have no doubt this is the widow of Simon and mother of Mary, it states " formerly masons wife". unless you know they went further afield I would stick with the Stratherrick area that covers south Loch Ness as Forfarian says you will need a car but you wont be disappointed. Farraline is a big house where my Fraser/ Rose family worked they lived with in the grounds at Balnoe this is now a ruin, as far as I know they are not related to the  Frasers of Farraline. There's a grave yard at the side of the Loch you can't miss it just before Foyers my Roses are there but I haven't found Simon and Mary there's also one at Dores if you come in from Inverness that's the one you will see first the road goes right through to Fort Augustus. Hi Marg59, the Janet Fraser you have was the sister of my Husbands 2x great grandmother Mary Fraser , Mary married David Rose, Mary died age 45 in 1870 her sister Janet Fraser was present at her death. their father was Simon Fraser, a mason their mother was Mary Fraser ms Fraser. the further back you go the less you will find on the records and as you have probably realised Frasers married Frasers. I will see if there is anything else I might have that maybe of help, Simon I think was of Gorthleck and as far as the Rose / Fraser are concerned the stayed around Errogie and Farraline. Nikitah

The Common Room / Re: Albums of photographs: disposal?

I can only endorse everything already said, I would also add don't throw out negatives either, several years ago while visiting my cousin, 15 years older than me, his wife remarked they had hundreds of negatives inherited from  her father in law, my Uncle, my husband, a keen photographer, said he could scan them, so began a wonderful journey into the past. It took many months of hard work scanning and cleaning but well worth it, there where photos of my mother, her siblings and my grandmother, no one had seen before, photos of when my Uncle was in the Royal Flying Cor when they where decommissioning, just after the first world war, most poignant though was one of my Aunt, my cousins mother, my mothers sister, standing over a grave, this made my cousin cry he was brought up an only child he'd been a twin his baby sister died a few weeks after they where born, he also had another older baby brother and sister who died a few months after their births, in his childhood no one spoke of these babies but now he had proof. More family stories jogged memories with these negatives rising from the ashes that could well have been ashes themselves had it not been for my cousin and his wife keeping them all those years and the many hours of hard work my Husband spent on them

I'm not sure if this should be here but its a continuation of the above, so, I have the baptism of Barbara Stewart 26 May 1818 @ Penicuick, father Alexander, Mother Barbara Young, witt' James Young and Androw Young. Then the birth  of Alexander Stewart 25 March 1798, baptised 12 April 1798, father Alexander Stewart mother Jean Finlay @ Inveresk + Musselburgh, witt' Willm Mackie and Willm Hamilton. ---then the marriage of Alexander Stewart to Jean Finlay @ St Cuthbert's , Alexander Stewart wood sawyer  in Nicholas street, and Jean Finlay lawful daughter to Richard Finlay labourer at Giffordhall, October 12 1775, then I found a birth for Jean Finlay August 6th 1749, Father Richard Finlay mother Janet Blackie @ Yester, that led me to the marriage of Richard Finlay and Janet Blackie @ Haddington 26 May 1738, I found these children for Richard and Janet,----Thomas 5 August 1739 @ Haddington.  Ann 20 September 1741 Haddington, Frances 27 July 1746 @ Morham, Finlay spelt Finly and mothers name spelt Jannet Blacky. it looks like Jean Finley was a twin to Richard both born? baptised 6 August 1749 at Yester. no further forward with the Stewart's or Young's though. Hope this help someone, Nikitah

Thank you ColC, yes you are right about Barbara, I have searched for years, the only confirmation I have for her parents is her death certificate from S P, I'm glad you believe  Alexander's parents to be Alexander Stewarts  and Jean Finlay I came to the same conclusion, I must get my info out because if my memory serves me right I took them back a couple of more generation definitely the Finlay branch I remember confusion of how many different ways it could be spelt. I thought that David Muir could be a throw back but haven't found it yet, but then I wonder about Barbara/ Barbary, Alexander Stewart and Barbara Young called their daughter Barbara, they had a Jean, after Jean Finlay and Janet after Janet Sanderson Barbara was the third , so was she just named after her own mother i e Barbara Young?. I think I will concentrate on the David Muir, see if that brings anything up , thank you for your help and interest, Nikitah. and a happy new year to you all :)

Hi forget that, >:( two of them has thrown a spanner in the works, William10/06/1753 to William Sanderson and Margaret Wallace at West Linton and Isobel Sanderson 05/ 08/1753 at Newlands to William Sanderson. the Isobel born 08/04/1737 to William Sanderson and Margaret  Wallace at West Linton has the same name and exact birthday 08/04/1737 as Isobel born at Newlands with only father William recorded, maybe this was why I gave up last time ;) Nikitah.
