In the PO directory of London for 1841 I have found a James BUTLER, esq. at 5 Montague Square.

Could someone please look up the full census entry?

Hello Debby,

I'd guess that he was Hyam (Chayim in Hebrew meaning life). My Jewish gf from Germany was Chayim (Herrman in German) and Henry in English.

JewishGen is not terribly good for British Jewry. Have you tried www.british-jewry.org.uk?

They have a very active forum and a lot of helpful soles.

I would really appreciate it if somebody could look up the following sisters in the 1901 census:

Gladys Irene Graham-White, aged 11, b. in St. Stephens
Olga H. Graham-White, aged 5, b. in Launceston

They are recorded at North Hill near Launceston in Cornwall. I would like to know with whom they are living.

Their father, George Graham-White, was recorded with his widowed mother in Launceston, but I cannot trace their mother, Margaret Annie nee Michell (b. 1861 Truro).

Richard TRAUBE and Ernst TRAUBE in the 1891 census.

They both married in Westminster in the final quarter of 1897, but I can find neither in the 1901 census.

Is Carrowmore the townland - just outside Knock?

I'm about to start researching my wife's family - Duffy from Mayo, who moved to Dublin at about the turn of the 19th century.

Thank you all for your exceptionally quick responses.

I was hoping to find Matthias Walter LEVY, who was born in Hamburg in November 1879. According to records in Hamburg he was known as Walter and departed to London on 2 November 1899.
