Armed Forces / The Royal Chelsea Hospital and pensions:

Good morning All…  Just a quick question…

I’m unable to find a death date for a soldier who participated at Waterloo.  I have his FindMyPast release papers plus the Ancestry page relating to pension and his hospital illness. (it's also mentioned in the National Archives)
However, try as I may, I am unable to find an 'Ancestry' page that mentions when the last payment was made.  Which would obviously lead me to assume that he died the same year.

Does such a page exist ?
Thanks in advance…, Iain.

  Blindness from fever ?

Yes..., thank you everyone.  I couldn't make out the 'ne,' and as rena said, the double 's' was confusing.
This man has one hell of a story to tell.  He has his Waterloo Medal, but shouldn't have as he should have been Court-Martialled.  Fever from a wound perhaps.

Thank you again..., Iain.

Good afternoon everyone...

Can someone please tell me what the three words are.  I have a rough idea but....

This has been taken from the Royal Chelsea Hospital register and is on the 'complaint' column.

Thanks in advance..., Iain.

Hi bagpipe…
Just for your interest and off-subject…  I knew many MacKinnons when I lived in Campbeltown.  In the meantime, when I joined the Scots Guards Pipe Band, I was friends with Alby MacKinnon, who ended up as Pipe Major. (RIP)
He was buried on Sky.

Just for your interest.  …, Iain.

Lol…, he just seems like a great bloke.  Like myself when I was participating with the ‘Changing of the Guard’ at St. James’s, (in those days) the tourists and local girls must have been all over him.  Although he was sober and had been deprived of alcohol all his service, he’d still have been out drinking with Comrades.

In addition, since I started this thread, I’ve been discovering new events concerning Waterloo and Cadwallader on a near monthly basis. (despite the 200+ years)
His Officers knew that he and the 33 others who were Courts-Martialled were scapegoats, to such an extent that one Colonel, one Lt. Colonel and his Regimental Adjutant wrote letters to call for an end to his restriction of privileges in time for his demob, plus the recovery of his Waterloo Medal.
A more than likeable bloke…, unless of course he was Gay.

Why do you think he had a wife?

Hmmm.  Very good point.   :-\

Good afternoon everyone…

Concerning George Cadwallader…, try as I may, I’m unable to find him a wife.  I’ve started a new tree for him on Ancestry, however, there are no hints.  Searching the ‘public member trees,’ there are two possibilities, but they have the wrong death-date.  In addition, they both have him with a Sarah, which confuses the issue even further.

In his 1841 census, (Piece 732 – Book 8 – Folio 41 – Page 15) he is living with a Sarah Jackson and a Sarah Dann.  One is 10 years younger and the other 10 years older.  ‘Find a Grave,’ no details which could lead to a family.

Is there any way of getting him married to one Sarah or the other ?
Thanks in advance…, Iain.

PS  As a reminder..., born 1791 and died 14 June 1848
