Hi Monica,
Many thanks. I have very little knowledge of Walter peterson Gray. He was my maternal grandmothers first husband and they had 2 children. My mother was from the second marriage. Family Legend has it that Walter was recalled to Scotland (from Natal, South Africa) as his father was on his death-bed. He arrived in Scottland in time for the funeral but caught pneumonia and also died. The Gray family had a distillery(?) ~ which ties in with my info as he was a wine merchant in Durban (SA). There was some unhappiness over the estate and Grandmother was given just sufficient funds for her to return to SA. It is even said that Walter's father was a Sir. But that is also probably family legend.
John ( my middle name is Guthrie) after grandfather.
