Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Paddock Family
« on: Tuesday 01 March 11 01:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  :)

I would love to find out how the Paddock family of Overton may be related to the Matthews family of Ruabon and Tranmere.  I know that the families lived in different counties  but thought I'd try Denbighshire!

In 1891 George Matthews age 35 has his Great Aunt Fanny Paddock with his family at 16 Acton Road, St.Peters, Bebington, Cheshire.

In 1881 Fanny was a 60 year old unmarried Servant to Emily Snell, living at Victoria Mount, Oxton, Cheshire. In 1871 Fanny was a domestic servant to a retired Malster, George Craven at 8 Oak Bank, St.John, Birkenhead, Cheshire. Haven't found Fanny before 1871  ::)

George was born Birkenhead but his family lived in Ruabon so trying to work out whether Great Aunt Fanny was an Aunt to George's Father James Matthews or his Mother Mary Davies. Fanny was single so must have been a sister of the mother of either James or Mary (unless of course Fanny was really the great Aunt of George's wife Emma, born Dudleson near Ellesmere)

James Matthews married Mary Davies in 1850 at St Giles, Wrexham, but in 1851 Mary was in Ruabon with her parents William (a shoemaker) and Elizabeth Davies, both born St Martins.  HO107 Piece 2503/ 47 Page 13

From 1861 until post 1901 Mary and James Matthews lived at Ruabon, strangely some of the time at Paddock Row!

Related thread on Cheshire board:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,480407.0.html

Found marriage of John Matthews and Mary Paddock in Ellesmere district in 1843 so that's a possible connection. However John born Montgomery on 1851 so seems less likely   :-\
HO107 Piece 1994/ 345 Pg 8

Also found an Edward Paddock at Dudleson in 1851 but his wife was Ann Dawson. Overton is not far from Dudleston or from Ruabon or Wrexham! ;D

Many thanks
Morgan

How to offer lookups
If you have sources of information that you are willing to carry out lookups on, then please post a new topic stating in your subject line/title the name and details of your lookup resources. For clarity please include the word "offer" in your title.

Please ensure beforehand, that the sources you are using are not subject to copyright, or that a lookup would not be contravening the "terms of use" of your materials.

In the body of the message you should then enter details of the lookup material that you have and any requirements for performing a lookup,  eg,  'address needed'.  Please include the following line at the very end of your message:

"For a look up request please start a new topic in the "Lookup Requests"  board for this county"

and lock your topic so that people cannot reply to it directly.  A moderator will add a link to your offer here in this topic.

Denbighshire / Marchwiel Munitions Factory
« on: Thursday 03 February 11 00:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I've heard that there was a Munitions factory at Marchwiel during WW2. Does anyone have any information about it, or know whether it's possible to find out about people who worked there please?

Was it the same site where there was later a Johnson and Johnson factory, or was that a different place? I've seen the pieces on the BBC and Coflein sites but wondered whether anyone has any local information.

Thank you in advance for any info   :)

Morgan
