Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA breakdown AGAIN
« on: Friday 09 December 22 03:35 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings to you all,
I was prompted to have a look on Ancestry's countries of origin for my DNA after reading some RC's comments.
Overall I have been extremely satisfied with my DNA origins as they matched my research exactly.

This time a whole side of my family has dropped off the map, as I had German and Prussian Ancestors...now none!
Really!!!

Well, I aint changing anything as I have a full history of these rellies.

Guess I just have to wait for Ancestry to catch up.

Cheers to you all, hope you are well.
Chris

The Common Room / Messaging Success!!!!
« on: Monday 17 October 22 00:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello to all,
Chris here from South Australia.
I have trees on Ancestry but cannot afford to subscribe at this time.
After hearing of people's problems messaging and obtaining a reply I did not hold out much hope when I sent a distant DNA cousin a message in Sweden. My paternal line came from there.
Lo and behold, 12 hours after messaging her she replied and was excited and happy to have me contact her!
So, there ya go....their system worked for me, even if I can't see any other trees.
May win the lotto one day and get a sub again!
Cheers,
Chris.

Australia / Carl Wilhelm BERG
« on: Friday 09 September 22 04:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am an Aussie from South Australia country.
My searches are therefore via the internet, RC etc.
My GGrandfather, Carl Wilhelm Berg was a Swede who jumped ship in Port Adelaide on 18 May 1865.
He learnt English and became a hairdresser and tobacconist, moving around the state to earn $'s.
When he was 51 he became a storekeeper and Postmaster at the North Rd, Nailsworth.
He stayed at Nailsworth until 1910.

I have been unable with my searches to find a photo of him. Would the Post Office have recorded his image for their records?
I have contacted many agencies to no avail.
Can anyone guide me to success????
Cheers,
Chris

Oh Dear! I just found my previous post on this subject, so STILL looking!
Thankyou for reading.

England / Will information please
« on: Saturday 16 July 22 03:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi RC's,
I have been following my Cave line in Somerset, and have found that Somerset Heritage Centre holds my 3× g.grandfather's Will and Letter of Administration.
I am in South Australia so can't just pop in to see them.

He is John Cave.
B.1753 Compton Dundon, died 30 Jan 1817 Pitney.
From info already obtained from the Heritage Centre, I have his marriage, children, burial etc. (St John the Baptist, Pitney.)

My question is....do I need to pay the Heritage Centre again to obtain a copy of the will? Or for that matter, can I obtain one?
I have the reference number.

Thankyou, any help is much appreciated.
Chris

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Dunce
« on: Monday 09 May 22 03:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters, I had my hubby do a DNA test with a view of tracing his paternal line as his father was adopted.
Nothing is known about his adoption except what I have discovered. In October next year I can apply for his Birth Certificate as it will be 100 years since his birth.

So Far...
Richard James Williams... (adoptive name)
Born 14 October 1923.... (Ballarat [Victoria] Benevelont Society-Register of Inmates 1895-1921??? Maternity Wards. Released 27 October 1923. 13 days
Mother...Violet A. (Aggie) Dowsey of 183 Scotts Parade, Ballarat.   inmate 12 October 1923-27 October 1923. Released 27 October 1923.
Adopted by....Frederick Lancelot Williams of Boyeo P.O. via Nhill, occupation- Farmer.  Ballarat Town and City Mission......hubby's adoptive Grandfather

Victorian Records tell me that Richard was never formally adopted and his birth certificate will show mother's name and may have other info on it.

In the meantime I have been looking at the DNA line.
In thrulines Ancestry says there are 0 DNA matches. My hubby is the only one who has tested on this line.
Meaning?
Is there no-one alive who has tested?

Please help me to understand.

Europe / Friedrich Wilhelm Lecher and Auguste Friedericke Kruger
« on: Sunday 17 April 22 05:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters.

I have been trying to find a bit more about my above GGGrandparents who came to Australia 1849. Taken from Auswanderungsakten, Brandenburg, Prussia.
They were married prior to coming to Australia.

Friedrich was born C.1821 (Brandenburg Transcripts of Church Records, 1700-1874) however I cannot read German. Gottlieb Lecher was his father. Also mentioned on the record above.

Auguste was born 21 August 1825, Cottbus, Germany (Prussia). Taken from Brandenburg, Germany, Transcripts of Church Records, 1700-1874.      Germany, Prussia, Brandenburg and Posen, Select Church Book Duplicates, 1794-1874.   Also the Immigration Record above. Auguste's parents are shown as Joh. Gotthelf Kruger and Joh.Christiane Mesker.

Friedrich lived in Norwood, South Australia, was a stonemason and built several homes on his blocks.

I am searching for their early years, his birth, parents, marriage date, siblings....really anything about them please?

Thankyou in advance,
Chris

Australia / Carl Wilhelm Berg
« on: Sunday 03 April 22 21:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
Carl Wilhelm Berg was my Swedish GGrandfather.
Born 1847 in Uppsala, Sweden, to a family of coppersmiths and miners.
He came to Australia on the "Frans Schartou" and jumped ship in Adelaide.
He became a hairdresser and tobacconist, setting up shops, following the copper miners.
In 1898 he had the tobacconist and hairdresser shop on North Road, Nailsworth, Adelaide.

Here he was the Postmaster also until 1910.
I have been searching for any documents/pictures/articles of his time there.
 Especially official docs appointing him.
Maybe I am just not looking in the right spots.

Can anyone help?
Thankyou,
Chris

Technical Help / Gedcom Pics???
« on: Saturday 12 February 22 04:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

I recently asked for help to arrange to send my trees via gedcom from anctry to tribal pages as I cannot afford to keep my anctry acct going.

This was worked out, however my photos did not transfer. Is there a way to do this as I only have 2 days left?
These pics have taken me many years to put on my trees and I would like to keep them with the family.

Thanking you in hopeful anticipation.    ???

Chris
