Oooookaaay!?

Thank you Girl Guide for that.

So this family were in Pitney and I believe the father also had freedom of the city.
Question...would they have been liverymen? From Somerset?
As far as I know, they were farmers.
John Darby was the name.

Cheers,
Chris

Hello to all you knowledgeable people.

My 4xGGrandfather, John Darby has this form saying his son, John is born in wedlock and as such has Freedom of the City Admission Papers.

Can anyone explain this to me please?

As an Aussie I have not seen this before.

Thank you so much
Chris

Thanks Viktoria and Mare for your thoughts.
We do utilise the mountain of poo which I clean out by putting it onto the next garden bed when it's broken down.
I am on a farm, small by Aussie standards, 220 acres of deep white non-wetting sand.
The piggies or chooks get my vegie scraps usually.
I was reading my "Gardening Australia" book today and wishing I could have the beautiful gardens in there.
My big problem is keeping the ground clear...tiger snakes, red belly black snakes, king browns visit often.
A big blue tongue lizard frightened the hell out of me when I uncovered the horse hay the other day!
Mare, I visited my SIL tuesday, his house has been spared, they don't know how mind you. All the family are ok, some got told to get out. Off they went with tents etc to the top of the hill/mountain.
Tui said that there was plenty to survive on up there.
He dearly wants to go home to help but can't yet.

When will this end???

My thoughts are with you all.
Love
Chris

Hi Griffo,
It's a bit scary over your way at the minute.      I have been keeping an eye on what's happening to the North Island as my daughter's fiance's family are all from Hawke Bay.
All ok so far.
Welcome to Rootschat Griffo, we all strive to help one another and there are some very knowledgeable people here.     They have helped me immensely and broken down a 15 year brick wall! Plus traced my family back to the 1600's in Sweden. Very good records there.

Ruskie, just a tad slow today!

Cheers,
Chris

PS.... Why has my number of posts not changed for ages?   Been 242 for a long time.

Good morning from South Australia.

I hope you don't mind my starting a new week!
It is a beautiful day here right now. Not a cloud in the sky and a temperature of 25 degrees forecast, which is cool for this time of year.

All my horses are fed, watered and the poos picked up.
I have arranged gates so that they can move around to find shade which they will need when it hits 38 degrees later this week.

Now off to water my garden. I have vegie plots in raised beds and pots here on the farm, under shadecloth.
Our soil is not good-sand over limestone.

After having a bad health scare last year I have finally found more energy (with help from great vitamins and the gym).
At 73, You have to pay attention to your body!
So to anyone not feeling well, please look after yourself.
Cheers
Chris

Hello Stanwix,
I believe my family falls into your category, but after a 15 year search I found most of my Ancestors on a ship called the "Duke of Bronte" a Barque.
It carried cargo and emigrants to South Australia and was advertised in the South Australian Gazette and Mining Journal as arriving in Adelaide on the 12 September 1849. This newspaper was only in publication for 5 years and I was lucky to find it.
Adelaide, South Australia was operating as a free state and the South Australian Company purchased much land and sold it on to prospective settlers.    My Ancestors were prominent farmers in Somerset and the oldest son arrived 3 months ahead of the family, presumably to find accommodation.
As yet I haven't been able to find out prices etc.
Cheers,
Chris

The Common Room / Family Tree Maker problem

Hi all,
I recall some of you had been having problems syncing your FTM program to Ancestry, so I went on line to try it out. I hadn't done it for a while.

When prompted I tried to log in and it FROZE!  This happened several times over 4 days.

I pay a Tech Company to keep my desk computer at a high level of operation, since I purchased a new setup from them 12 months ago.   My man backed up everything, and installed updates etc, then tried to sync.   No Go!!   As it was getting late, he had to go and will contact me tomorrow (Mon).

In the meantime I investigated further through FTM.
Apparently they are aware of the problem on FTM 2017 for Windows and their Techs are "Working" on it.
I made a strong protest to the company as they could not give me an ETA on repairing the problem.
Call me cynical, but I reckon they are trying to annoy us so we upgrade from the Free Edition.

Happy Sunday guys!
