Hi Ellen,

The only thing is the probate information gives slightly differing places of death..perhaps coincidence that they died the same day..or maybe a broken heart  :(

Hi Terri,

The marriage of Charles to Nancy (Ann) shows Charles's father as John and not James as you had in your tree.

The following:

The Paul parish marriage records show the following marriage by Banns on 22 January 1866. Charles Gwennap, 25, Fisherman, of Mousehole, Father: John Gwennap, Farmer, to Ann Harvey, 19, of Newlyn, Father: Benjamin Harvey, Fisherman. The groom signed the register, the bride marked her name with an X. Witnesses to the marriage are given as: Richard Berryman and Miriam Curnow.

The St Buryan parish death record shows: Charles Gwennap of Church Town, 8 August 1869 aged 29 years.

The English BMD records show the following death:

Gwennap, Charles, September Quarter, 1869, aged 29 years, District of Penzance, Volume 5c, Page 207.

I suspect William died quite young as have not located him past the 1861 census.

Thanks Liz and Osprey.

I have the date but as I not from Cornwall I have no idea what newspapers would have existed in that part of the country in 1936.

Thanks Osprey I will ask, they can only say no! Thanks for the link.

Kind regards

Hi everyone,

Could anyone please suggest how I might find out about the death of a married couple (both elderly) that occurred on the same day in 1936 short of buying the death certificates?

They were residents of Parc-an-Cady, St Buryan and I am not sure if their deaths may have made the paper's or not, I just thought it must be fairly unusal that they both died on the one day.

Any ideas would be appreciated  :)

Hi Bilge,

Thank you for the links. They make interesting reading!

I had forgotten about the census although I had noted it down for Samuel. I had discounted it as by 1901 he gave his occupation as a General Farm Labourer and then as a Farm labourer in the 1911 census.

Ohh Bilge! How exciting...smuggling!!!

Why do you think he had been a fisherman? Everything I see tells me he is a farm labourer?

hi Bilge and Xin,

He doesn't appear on the Black Sheep Index either....

Xin I know, and I can't believe I don't have one convict in the family! One side emigrated from Cornwall and the other Scotland and Samuel is the only one that I have found as a guest of the jail and I can't find out what he did! ???

Aside from the usual illegimate children, divorces and other bits and peices non of them seemed to have done anything particuarly memorable!

LOL it's so frustrating!

Thanks Bilge for your assistance.

I have his earlier life, his parents etc, it's just why he went to prison how long for etc,
