World War Two / confused...

I hope somebody can shed some light... I always thought and had been told
My Grandfather Robert Boustead served with RNF during ww2
but on a recent search through old family papers and marriage certs etc
marriage cert and soldiers service pay book states he was a sapper in the
Royal Engineers no 4279184
could anyone point me any direction to find out what he did during the war
or did he move regiments any info would be a great help!!

Father Frank Ward (no dob) Mother maiden name Brown, his siblings Walter, Nellie, May and Harold.
