Armed Forces / US Service personnel and UK brides travel
« on: Monday 19 September 11 15:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Im trying to trace the movements of two of my family. Both girls married US Servicemen between 1953 and 1955 and both emigrated to the states and eventually spent the rest of their days over there

Ive checked UK outgoing passenger lists to no avail but would there be a different route/method of recording such travel? Im assuming they left when their respective husbands either left the armed forces or were posted home

Its a general question really but the couples in question are Robert Allen Denson and June Edith Winfield and J.C Moran and Audrey Lillian Winfield

Thanks

London and Middlesex / Newington Prison- David Winfield
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Im trying to rule in (or out) a certain David Winfield from my tree. Born 1818 in Middlesex, of what seems well to do parents, he married Charlotte Todd in 1838. In 1841 he lived in Lambeth, then in 1851 the only census record shows a man of the same name in Newington Prison. However, I then lose track. I do see that the prison wass discontinued in 1851

Im looking to find out if there any assizes records that convict him between 1841-1851 and if it is the same man

If he is in jail prior to 1850 then I can rul him out as my G-G-Grandfather was born in 1850

This may/may not be his father ...

Thanks

Occupation Interests / Lost at sea but where to go to get more details?
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 22:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi

After a long search I have some confidence that I have found the death record of my GG Grandfather Alfred Winfield. He is listed as "died/lost at sea" in 1907 in the GRO Records

He was lost on the SS Putney Bridge,  I know that this is an individual loss rather than a ship loss as the Putney Bridge later changed names to the SS Dixiana and was torpedoed and sunk in 1915

Are there any public records available where I can get more information about the loss of Alfred?  Captain's report, etc would be great..

Google quite helpful about wine bars etc in Putney ...

Any help welcome!!

« on: Tuesday 10 May 11 20:05 BST (UK)  »
According to the 1911 census my Grandfathers Uncle was 11 and a student at the orphanage. Do any records other than the census survive that may help me trace him?
At some point he must have (if he was a good boy) been discharged

His name was James Winfield born c.1900 in South Shields County Durham

Any help welcome

Thanks

Cliff
