Oxfordshire / Chaundys Place Oxford

Hi all

Hoping someone may be able to help here. Im looking for any photographs that include 7 Chaundys Place Oxford.

It was a lane off Paradise Square during the 1960s when it made way for the Westgate Shopping Centre. Ive had a look at the Heritage Oxford site but there is only 1 image that shows the road in to the place itself

Reason for asking.. I was born there. Number 7, front bedroom first floor (they had 3 floors)

Hope someone can help

Kind regards
Cliff

Thanks to all for the investigatory work! As to the elaborate mount, the photograph is 6x4" but the frame is a hardwood gilt measuring 24x22" so that does bear out the report above

Many thanks again for all your help!

Hi Rootchatters

A friend of mine has asked me to recover a water-damaged photograph, but on removing it from an elaborate mount I found the studio name embossed on the surround. Ive tried to clarify the best I could and this version (dull paper brown mount inverted in PS) is the best I can do for now. I tried to reshoot with my macro lens but it didnt improve

May be G Johnson - Bedford?

Many thanks for any help
Cliff

Thanks Arthurk and Davedrave.

I had a mooch on that eBay link you sent and the description on the images of other Sibford cards have the same flourish on the S just like mine does and this is attributed to Percy Simms.

Googling further I found that Simms was a Chipping Norton photographer and a rival of his, Frank Packer and latterly his son Basil, took over Simms' studio and all of the Packers work is now digitised https://heritagesearch.oxfordshire.gov.uk/search/all:images/0_50/all/score_desc/frank%20packer

Both Simms and Packer worked from 1910 onwards, so the suggestion that the card is not pre-1903 seems well founded

Many thanks for all the research carried out!

I can’t be precise but before 1902 when the division between message and address came in.

Thanks Jebber - the confirmation I was after was the date of the inclusion of the divider. I did see a chat about it being 1902 but wanted to be sure.
