Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / French marriage 1685
« on: Friday 07 January 22 03:15 GMT (UK)  »
I would be most grateful for a transcription of this please.
It was at Montreuil sur mer, pas de Calais.
I can see 'Francois Duvivier' on the second line, and then on the third line his father, also Francois, is defunct. His mother was Anne daire, also on the third line. I think that's her in the top boxed 'mark of '.
He married Marie Mustelle, and I think her father is given here as Louis Mustelle, again defunct, and her mother was Marie du?
Is the name in the other boxed 'mark of' Catherine Duvivier, aunt?

Many thanks

I thought Repairer but not sure about the p. I can't think of anything else that looks like that though.

Is there another 'p' on the page?

It looks like -

'Sa femme
meme profession' ?

'His wife
same profession'

? 'Guimpier' - 'Tireur d'or fabricant le fil d'or utilise ensuite par le Fileur d'or'

Highlighted phrases take you to more definitions of that particular job.

Thanks Polarbear
I will check this out.

Perhaps we could do with a bit of that snow her in New Zealand! we're going through something of a sweltering heatwave, even for a usual NZ summer.  ;)

I have a couple of records on findagrave which have no photographs of the graves.
Is there any kind Rootschatter who might be able to visit and take photos of them? I would be very grateful. They are my great grandparents, originally from Scotland.

They are:
David Galloway died 10th April 1913. The only reference I can find on findagrave is Memorial ID: 108151335.
His burial is in the ‘St Giles Presbyterian’ register.
And his wife Margaret Galloway died 13th Feb 1936. Memorial ID: 108151346.
Her burial is in the ‘First Presbyterian’ register.

I will try the ‘Request a photo’ on findagrave if all else fails, but I have tried this before on other records on there, to no avail. (not ones in Canada).

Thank you very much

Goodness Sandra, another bumper crop!
I have seen a few of them before, but some have happened since I looked at this side of the family.
Many names recalled from my childhood in the uk when we would get parcels and cards from these relatives in Canada.
The Mary Galloway Cochran you found in Cheshire was one that stayed behind when the others went to Canada from Scotland, and she later moved to Cheshire.
I was adamant we should put her maiden name on the gravestone so that future generations, or any other genealogists, might be able to trace her back to the family - just like you have done! Brilliant.

Thank you so much

« on: Sunday 02 January 22 20:41 GMT (UK)  » have 2 films of the BTs.
One, 1629 - 1672, is viewable from home if you're logged in. This has a 'search' facility next to the camera icon. A few 'Days' come up. No Edward.
The other 1593 - 1871 is locked and only viewable at an LDS library. It does say the film has many missing or illegible parts.

Wow! A bumper crop Sandra. Thank you so much for these.
It's nearly 10 years since I posted this. Rootschat never fails to amaze me!
I haven't looked at this branch for some time, so it's good to think of them again.

I have another couple who died in Montreal. In fact they were my great grandparents.
Would it be possible to see if they have obituaries on this newspaper site?
They were Margaret Bruce Galloway who died 13th February 1936, and her husband David Galloway, who died 10th April 1913, both in Montreal.
They are both listed on findagrave as buried at Mount Royal cemetery, but there are no photos of the graves. I might follow this up now and put a plea out here on Rootschat to see if somebody can take a photo.

Thanks again for your kindness
