It's very difficult without even knowing some sort of area for them Eview. Any idea of what town or county? or even which country of the British Isles?

Been thinking about this all night!
Couldn't find any abbreviation for 'f' that fitted.
Could the 'f' not be  an 'f' but a 't' with a curled top? (like his 't' in 'the' but with a little loop). Standing for 'thousand'?
So the 'y' could be year? But the 'y' seems to have an extra little mark before it - meaning?
I don't feel really happy with that as you would have expected a Latin abbreviation for thousand really  - wish I knew more about dates.
cheers

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Valentine Godfrey of St.Margaret's
« on: Saturday 25 September 10 12:32 BST (UK)  »
On http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home , a Valentine Godfrey is born 17 jan 1759 St Margarets Leicester of Thomas Godfrey and Sarah.
Valentine and Eleanor's marriage is there - 1821, as is Valentime's and Susannahs - Feb 1782.

Valentine (born 1828) has at least three brothers and sisters.  go to 'Advanced Search' and just put in the parents' names and no date.
Valentine (born 1800) has 8 brothers and sisters .
Valentine (born 1759) has a couple (but if you just put Thomas as father and leave mother blank it brings up another one which is a possibility).

Hope this helps!
Cheers

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Re: Baker Family
« on: Saturday 25 September 10 08:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi Peter
Don't know if you have got this , but on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Frank Baker is born in the Dec quarter 1885 in Sculcoates, which I believe is part of Hull, and Emily Atkinson is born June quarter 1884 , again at Sculcoates. You will need to send for their birth certificates to get their parents names, addresses etc.
You can also find their marriage - Dec quarter 1905, again at Sculcoates, which would give their father's names, ages, occupations etc.
Hope this helps

Hi Beth
Do you have Elizabeth's father's name? - always a help when trying to find the birth. What does it say on her marriage certificate?
On www.freebmd.org.uk William Nicholls marries Elizabeth Short March quarter 1842 Plymouth. It doesn't show either fathers' names in this index- you'd need to send for the certificate from the GRO or the local office in Plymouth -
The Register Office, Chief Executive's Department, Lockyer Street, Plymouth, PL1 2QD.
Tel: 01752 268331. Fax: 01752 256046.
E-mail: plymouth.register.office[at]plymouth.gov.uk
I've always found it quicker to contact a local register office first when I was sending for certificates - I have heard tales of it taking several weeks to get certificates from the GRO! They cost about 9 pounds now I think (sorry, no pound sign on this keyboard!)
Then we can try and see which Elizabeth Short it might be.
Hope this helps!
