Pte. Philip  (poss T.P) Dorrington 82791 2/7 was in the Durham Light Infantry.   Born in 1900 not sure of dates of enlisting or of discharge.

Would his army record give details of what he did - if he received a pension - his date of death etc AFTER he had left the Army or do Army Records end when the soldier is discharged ?  Thanks.

The Lighter Side / Telling the adult children ?
« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 16:30 GMT (UK)  »
As family historians we want to find out as much information as we can about our forebears - not only
b-m-d's but personal details.
At times it's frustrating because this lack of information means we don't know as much about them as we would like.
However I find myself doing the very thing that I criticise my forebears for doing.    That is I have not  told my children about some important things which have happened to me and other family members.
Anyone else in the same situation?

Family History Beginners Board / Looking for father's name
« on: Friday 11 November 22 21:55 GMT (UK)  »
 b. Dec 1/4 1919 Joan E Dorrington mmn Hageman  - Pancras (parents my be unmarried)

 b. Sep 1/4 1922 Gladys E Dorrington mmn Hageman - Holborn.

Their mother's name was Lilian Hageman (found her as Lilian Davison on 1939 Register)

I have the marriage of Lilian Hageman to Thomas Philip Dorrington in M 1/4 1922 in Islington.

Without buying Joan and Gladys's Birth Certs is it possible to confirm the name of the father - Thomas  Philip Dorrington on the two Birth Certificates.

Thanks.

Family History Beginners Board / Canada/Caithness

Barbara Henderson married Philip Thomas Dorrington in St Catharine Ontario on 2 April 1932.  Philip born in England 1900 - Barbara's birthplace n/k.
To date been unable to find where they are buried. (see earlier post.)

According to Ancestry there is a record of one Barbara Forbes Henderson dying in Wick Caithness in 1985.  According to Ancestry this Barbara was also married on 2 April 1932.

Is it likely that the Barbara who died in Caithness is one and the same as the one who married in Canada.  If they are one and the same then she must have reverted to her maiden name.  (no record of the burial, of Philip Thomas (or Thomas Philip) in Scotland.
Or has Ancestry confused things  --  Thanks.

Family History Beginners Board / Difficult to explain !
« on: Saturday 15 October 22 15:04 BST (UK)  »
Sister-in-law asked me to 'do' her family tree.

Think I've fallen at the first hurdle!

Not giving names as some of the people still alive and easily identifiable as it's an extremely unusual surname.

s-i-l father's name T.B.N. b. 1939 - marries A.L.E. in 1958

T.B.N. marries E.H.J in 1963 (same district as A.L.E.)        info from Find My Past.

s-i-l born 1963 - certain her mother (still alive) was called  P.J. before her marriage to T.B.N.

1) There should be a record of divorce of T.B.N. and A.L.N.(formerly A.L.E.)   - where can I find this?
2) Why is T.B.N. recorded as marrying E.H.J. in 1963 when the person he married in 1963 was P.J?

Thanks.

John James Dorrington...born Dec 1/4 1910 in Biggleswade.  Parents John James Dorrington b.1884 and Florence Dorrington b 1874.

Cannot find this family on the 1911 census.  (On the 1912 Electoral Registers John James Dorrington is at West*** Street and Florence in Hardwicke Shefford.)

Cannot find ref to the birth of the father John James Dorrington (b.1884) and I can't find him on the censuses of 1891 and 1901. Cannot find ref to the marriage of John J D and Florence.

The parents John J D and Florence D died in 1960 and 1956 respectively - the son John J D died in 1993 in Bedford.

(a familiar surname but a completely new search!)    Thanks.
