« on: Monday 17 May 04 21:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Can anybody help me with an 1851 Beds census look up please.

I have a ref  H0107/1753. Clifton area.

What I am looking for is the birth place of Samuel Green at Clifton New Farm.

I am trying to tie him up to another Green who is my direct line.

Any help very gratefully accepted.

Thanks :)

Diane

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / 1851 census index Bedfordshire
« on: Wednesday 05 May 04 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody help with an 1851 index look up please for Bedfordshire.

I have an Ann and George Green.

Living in Clifton in 1841 both down as 40.

In 1851 can't see them in same area of Clifton, but two children were living with relations on poor relief.

I need to see whether either or both were still alive to narrow down my search and try and find death cert.

Thanks for any help

Diane

Census and Resource Discussion / Re:1901 census decoder
« on: Tuesday 20 April 04 16:54 BST (UK)  »
It's a shame the pro keep "scrambling" the numbers these use. Trying to make it harder for us to purchase the correct image.

Partial 1901 is now on Ancestry and the search engine ,although not as flexible does let you see who else is in the household, before you download the image.

If the pro did that people wouldn't have to use these decoders in the first place.

Ireland / Birth details - Costigan
« on: Saturday 27 March 04 23:48 GMT (UK)  »
I have tracked a line in my husbands tree to Ireland.

Both William Costigan and wife Mary living in Stepney 1871 census were b. Ireland.

As they were both aged 24 this makes their year of birth around 1844.

I believe I have found a ref for their marriage at St George in the East 1862.

I have no idea how to find their birth info as this is the first foray into Irish research to date.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated

Thank you

Diane

Bedfordshire / Green family of Bedfordshire
« on: Saturday 27 March 04 22:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have just managed to get my first piece of evidence of my gt.gt.grandfather William Green being born in Clifton, Beds.

I located the family on the 1841 census at the FRC, Williams parents were George Green and  Ann Kitchener.

I found that she was married to a Lewington and this was her second marriage.

I am trying to track down where George was born, I have a hunch it could be Ampthill..They married 1830 Clifton. George and Ann were both down as 40 on 1841 census, although I realise this may not be their true age.

Couldn't find them all on the 1851, two of William's siblings were living with a Kitchener family as niece and nephew in receipt of poor relief.

I have just got the Clifton registers hoping they would have some information on George and Ann (as they only go up to 1812 I knew their marriage etc., wouldn't be in them)

There is no sign of them, so I need to look further afield.

I have found a George Green and a Ann Kitchener in Ampthill at the right kind of time but this is IGI.

Can anybody give me some help on this.

Please!!

The Common Room / Help please!! Microfiche ref numbers - what do they mean???
« on: Friday 05 March 04 22:53 GMT (UK)  »
I've just got a Stepney 1851 census index on fiche, from ebay.

I've dug my fiche reader out to have a look and can't make head nor tale out of it. I haven't had an awful lot of experience with fiche for census.

eg. I found Bastow  1 - 307v. What does it mean, how do I check it on the 1851 census.

Any advice gratefully received!!
